Poll question: If you were forced to vote for one of these modern Republican presidents
Which one would you vote for and why?

I'd pick Gerald Ford. I think he was a decent human being who did the best he could as president. He probably never imagined how bad things were going to be today thanks to his Republican successors.

2. Richard Nixon.
I know it sounds silly, but the man who took a memo seriously enough to create the EPA just might have what it takes to DO something about global warming. And it would be hillarious.

9. He's also the guy
who set us on the road to the disastrous health care issues we face. Not a good trade in my opinion.

4. There hasn't been a decent Republican president since Eisenhower.
So, I guess I'd go with Ford. But only as the lesser of many evils.

23. A rabbit pebble surrounded by fascist cowshit.
There really HASN'T been a good Republican president since Eisenhower. And we've had FIVE of them. Three with two terms.

When did this country's head go permanently up it's ass?

6. The Worst Thing Ford Did Was Pardon Nixon
(Pretty bad I agree.) Other than that he stumbled a lot, right?

8. Though he pardoned Tricky Dick...
Edited on Thu Aug-30-07 04:31 AM by silverojo
...you didn't see him behaving as insanely as these neo-cons. IIRC, he also appointed a liberal judge to the Supreme Court.

And hey, it was pretty amusing, watching him bump his head on things.

14. Gerald and Mrs. Ford were both prochoice and pro ERA.
Betty Ford actually came out publicly for the Equal Rights Amendment when it was going through the amendment process.

It was after that that the REpublican Party took its support for the ERA out of its official platform. Some indignant Republican women I knew resigned from the party and became Democrats then and there.

18. If you put a gun to my head & forced me to vote for a republican,
then Ford. He came across as bit of a schmuck, and I won't forgive the pardon, but I did admire Betty.

I would also choose Gerald Ford. Not as bad as the rest. But if I must vote for a recent Republican, I would rather vote for Betty Ford!

I'd rather have a dumb klutz running our country than a Fundamentalpatient Warhawk Slowly-growing-brain-dead Fascist run it.
