Obama Dominates GOP Rivals in Illinois |
|
Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama would easily carry his home state in the 2008 United States presidential election, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. At least 55 per cent of respondents in the Prairie State would vote for the Illinois senator in head-to-head contests against two prospective Republican candidates.
Obama holds a 23-point advantage over former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, and a 21-point lead over actor and former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson. In other contests, Democratic New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton holds a 10-point lead over Giuliani, and a nine-point edge over Thompson.
Obama was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004, defeating Republican Alan Keyes in Illinois with 70 per cent of the vote.
In 2004, Democrat John Kerry won Illinois’ 21 electoral votes, with 55 per cent of the vote. The last Republican to carry the Prairie State in a U.S. presidential election was George H. Bush in 1988.
Incumbent George W. Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The next United States presidential election is scheduled for November 2008.

Also good that every once in a while, we get some parody in the DEM ranks being reported by the MSM - i.e. it's not JUST the HRC show.
Go Obama! :applause:
