61% of Democrats Say Dems Likely to Nominate White Male
This interesting because the 1st, 2nd (although Edwards is now within the margin of error with Obama in the Rass poll), and 4th place candidates are all not white males.

54% Say Dems Likely to Nominate White Male

==New York Senator Hillary Clinton and Illinois Senator Barack Obama have been one-two in polls for the Democratic Presidential nomination since the campaign season begin. Together, they routinely attract support from more than half of all Likely Democratic Primary Voters. But, the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 54% of the nation’s voters say it’s at least Somewhat Likely that the Democrats will end up nominating a White Male. Twenty-four percent (24%) of all voters say a White Male candidate is Very Likely.

Thirty-four percent (34%) say the Democrats are Not Very Likely or Not at All Likely to nominate a White Male. Twelve percent (12%) are not sure.

This month’s poll finds voters a bit more likely to believe the nominee could be a White Male. A month ago, just 46% said that outcome was Somewhat or Very Likely. Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards is the only White Male candidate earning double digit support in polling for the Democratic Presidential Nomination. He has consistently found himself in third place attracting support in the mid-teens nationally.

Democrats themselves are even more inclined to see the possibility of both frontrunners being passed. Sixty-one percent (61%) of Democrats say a White Male nominee is at least Somewhat Likely. Twenty-two percent (22%) consider it Very Likely. ==

1. I do understand the reservations about Clinton and Obama,
none of the candidates is perfect, I will find it ironic is our liberal party ends up nominating a white male after having a woman and a black lead the polls for many months.

I am sure that all of us who support one of the white males, or at least oppose Clinton and Obama, do so for policy or character reasons. If one of the white males does emerge on top that is fine, but the irony of a woman and a black, who are apparently as well "qualified" as the others, will be there.

I am of conflicted opinion. At times I wish that the "best" man (or woman) should win regardless of gender or color. At other times I believe that ignoring the impact of a candidate's gender and color on the political process is naive or, depending on the circumstances, even disingenuous. (The latter would more clearly be the case if, say, Colin Powell and Elizabeth Dole had been leading the Repub polls for months, but 61% of Repubs thought that a white male would win the nomination.)

Perhaps a white male is our most "electable" candidate, since both Clinton and Obama would face some opposition on gender and color grounds, in addition to the usual policy and character considerations. It is just funny the set of conditions that fate puts in front of you and the affect the decision that you have to make.

2. The problem
with polls like this is that they ask people to speculate about what they think other people will do. Not what they themselves plan on doing. And this gives them very limited value.

6. Self fulfilling prophecy at its worse!

This is probably the same 61% who thought Saddam was involved in 9/11 which is a large reason why we are in Iraq spending billions day after day, and watching millions die while most social programs helping the poor are being eradicated.

Thank you for the info, but I don't want to be in that majority, regardless of the fact that they outnumber me and therefore hold the "popular" view. I will have my courage now to do as I damn well please and screw the unreliable polling companies who get big bucks to make sure to get the right results. If we could have found enough who would voted for the "unconventional" when they were voting for the IWR, we wouldn't be in the fucking mess that we are in. Tell that to the 61%!

It if was up to the majority, Black folks might still be toiling the fields for free! And the fact that we have been voting for White Guys for way too long is why we are where we are.

I'm telling everyone who will listen why they should vote for Obama or Hillary if that's who they want to see in the White House regardless of what "conventional wisdom" says about the White guys.

Voting ain't a fucking horserace, where one should "go" with the "winner" to look good and be right! It's an election for God sake!

So I'll be voting for who I want to! Screw "electability" and "Fuck" predictability....neither worth what they are sold for.
