Poll question: Larry Craig: A Democratic No-Fly Zone?
Mitt Romney was the first of the Republican presidential candidates to denounce Larry Craig's indiscretion in an airport men's room. "It's disgusting," Romney said of the man who used to be his Senate liaison. Senator John McCain, a Romney rival, echoed those sentiments, saying: "He should resign. My opinion is that when you plead guilty to a crime you shouldn't serve." Many of Craig's Republican colleagues in the Senate, meanwhile, are clamoring to get him to step down.

But one group of politicians has been strangely silent on this latest Republican scandal. Not a single one of the Democratic candidates for President has made a public comment on it.

Generally, I feel that the Craig issue is a Republican issue, but two things:

1) Were it a Democrat, the Repubs would be running with this and demanding resignation

2) Kerry had no problem calling for Vick to be suspended before Vick even had a trial

So is this silence a good thing or a bad thing?

4. Just what I was thinking
GOP is happy to throw their own under the bus. Why do the Dems have to help? If a reporter asks a Dem for their thoughts, I think they should feel free to share them, but otherwise, I think we look better staying out of if.

7. Same here
Save it for the campaign trail. And what luck, Craig is up for re-election in '08!

2. Democrats are doing the only smart thing to do: let Craig and the GOP hang themselves

3. Best case scenario, Craig stands for reelection.
We loves us some Larry Craig as the face of the Republic party.

6. Why should they say anything? Yes, the Repubs would be screaming day and night because they're
Repubs. We don't always have to be like them.

The Democratic candidates are in a good position to say nothing that would inflame the RW fringe, which is turning on Craig.

8. Other...
The issue they should be addressing is the blatant hypocrisy of the whole Republican party! I could care less about someone's sexual orientation, but I do care about the rest of the things that their people (Abramoff, Libby, Gonzales, the list goes on) have done; they would be demanding public hanging if these outrages were committed by Democrats.

9. You make a good point. The Dems could make HYPOCRACY an issue. And Lord knows, the Rethugs have

10. This is between Senator Craig and the Idaho voters. Period!
Sure, it's a trainwreck and it's a fun topic to chew the fat over. But it's really not a subject that Democratic politicians need to weigh in on... it's none of their business.

Sure, Craig is a hypocrite with his anti-gay positions... again, this is betweeen Craig and the Idaho voters.

"1) Were it a Democrat, the Repubs would be running with this and demanding resignation

I'm not sure that is true (?) Anyway, it's win-win for Democrats... Craig/Vitter are welcome to stick around, because then the bogus "family values" issue is off the table for the GOP, during the next election.
