Judge Southwick and Senator Feinstein |
|
I'm not a great poster, but I want to let this be known. The human rights campaign, among others sent me a ltter opposing the nomination of Judge Southwick to Federal Court because he is, as they put it, a biggot. This is a judge who took a child away from her biological mother becuase the mother is gay.
So I wrote a letter to Dianne Feinstein, who is on the judiciary committee. I just got her response. It was, in short; the judge has already been voted out of committee (which means into power)on a 10-9 vote. A 10-9 vote. In favor of an extremely right wing Bush nominee. Feinstein voted in favor, saying he isn't really who I would like to see on the bench, but I found him to be in "the mainstream", and therefore had no reason to vote against him.
One vote. All she had to do was vote no. I know this is same old, same old story, and I don't want to get into that. But if you have the time, will you please voice your disapproval to this woman. She seems to be playing the same game that O'Conner was playing in the supreme court, pretending to be a centrist while furthering the rightwing agenda over and over again.

1. It gets worse. quote from a fred thompson blog: |

Friends, some good news to report. Today, with the support of a single Democratic Senator, Dianne Feinstein of California, Judge Leslie Southwick’s nomination was passed by the Senate Judiciary Committee on a 10-9 vote. The full Senate must still act on the nomination, so only the first part of the battle is won. There remains more to do before Judge Southwick is confirmed by the full Senate. Still, given how hard-fought this nomination has been and how his opponents sought to demonize Judge Southwick, today’s action is welcome news.

2. It hurts to follow her. She is rarely a heroine. I do recognize that |
|
she comes up with good questions in hearings. And it ends there .

3. The entire black caucus wasd against this nomination because this judge has a history of racism |
|
and will preside over southern states. Feinstein singlehandedly gave this seat to the republicans. I see nothing good about her any longer. She is not a democrat. She represents republican interests.
