Nazi group has said it will stage an anti-immigration protest outside the Mexican Consulate Omaha |
|
Protest, celebration planned Saturday will close Dodge Street
Dodge Street will be closed for at least six hours Saturday near Mutual of Omaha and a Diversity Day rally will be held downtown in response to a planned appearance in Omaha by the National Socialist Movement.
The Minneapolis-based Nazi group has said it will stage an anti-immigration protest from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday outside the Mexican Consulate office at 3552 Dodge St.
Dodge Street from 33rd to 38th Street will be closed beginning at 10 a.m. The decision to close a major city street was made to provide a secure environment during the protest, police said. Officers will be on hand to monitor the protest.
At the same time in downtown Omaha, a Diversity Day celebration will be held at the site of Septemberfest near Qwest Center Omaha.
Mayor Mike Fahey has declared Saturday "Diversity Day" in Omaha. The Anti-Defamation League, Citizens for Equal Protection, the Latino Center of the Midlands and the Conference of Inclusive Com munities are sponsoring a rally to mark that declaration. The event, which will feature speakers and entertainment, begins at 2 p.m. on the main stage of the festival.

1. While I realize the Constitution sanctions even a group like this to rally in |
|
any U.S. city, I hope this Saturday in Omaha it rains to beat hell.
Soak 'em.

Do it up right. Don't let Hitler down. He's depending on them to uphold his fantastic plan. I mean, what's the logical conclusion? Is anyone really blond enough? Why not just kill everyone?
Assholes. Get a life!
Edit- And I had a fairly good day. I'm just tired of all of this wasted energy. What a waste. All while life gives us enough trouble. Like disease and that other thing...oh yeah, death.

4. Who'd have thunk that Omaha would ever see the Nazis here demonstrating? |
|
And what are they demonstrating about? I took this to be legal immigration. Am I wrong?
Why would they think they have a leg to stand on if a person is here legally? And why just the Mexican Consulate? There are illegals from many countries.
I can understand demonstrations against illegal immigration but not against one particular Consulate. And what would be the justification to demonstrate against people who are OBEYING immigration laws? And I can't understand the Nazis demonstrating at all.
Can you clear this up?

6. I know there is a Swedish consulate downtown too |
|
This article is from omaha.com. I don't have a link yet. This is all the info I have so far. I'll be at the NU game, or I'd go counter protest the Nazi's.

7. I used to drive past it on the way to work--I think it's just an obvious |

target (if I recall, it has the Mexican flag prominently displayed). Nice black eye for Omaha. I hope it's three nutcases and the cold shoulder from everyone else.

8. It's just so damn weird that the National Socialist Party would think it |
|
worthwhile to come here. I mean a demonstration or protest here in Omaha is sort of funny. And even though people here are pretty republican, I would never think that the people here would be associated with them at all. Not at all. I might be naive but I doubt we even have a 'skinhead' movement in any of our young. It's just not something you'd associate with these farmers, you know?

9. LOL! You're right, Nebraskans in general are not "protest" people. |
|
Omaha is a surprising choice--you're just not going to get this staid midwestern farm stock, of German and Norwegian descent, all fired up at a rally like this. My husband's squadron (at Offutt) was warned NOT to participate. I would hope that warning was unnecessary.
