Senator Leahy wants to defund the war |
|
Tonight, listening to Senator Leahy on VPR, I heard him say that the way to end the war, just like Vietnam, is to defund it. He is strongly opposed to further funding, and is, of course, going to vote against the supplementary. Bernie and Peter Welch said essentially the same thing.
If you have a minute, contact these guys and thank them. Particularly Leahy, who actually stated that the only way to end it, is to defund it.

2. That's right. Stop talking about it, and do it. |
|
Just end it. Enough is enough.
It was all based on lies anyway. The moment we found out we'd been had by this administration in the lead up to war, the troops should have been pulled out.
This is bullshit.

7. Ignorance is so predictable |
|
I suggest you fucking educate yourself. Read Senator Leahy's speech prior to the vote in which he specifically warns that this is a Gulf of Tonkin moment.
He's been staunchly against the war to begin with. And he's actually speaking out and saying what we supposedly want out reps to be saying.
Leahy talks the talk and walks the walk. He voted to defund Vietnam. He voted against Gulf war I and the Iraq war, and he's been a staunch anti-war voice.

10. LOL. It's all the lens we view things through, isn't it? |
|
Because through my lens, your comments were not only ignorant but immature. And of course, you couldn't address the points I made. Didn't expect that you could.

22. I didn't respond to your comments because you have no respect for others. |
|
Read your first sentence over again. Is this your way of carrying on a discussion with someone, or do you just get off on baiting and attacking others with the intent of disrupting the board?
I think the answer is obvious.
Starting off by attacking someone you don't know and insulting them shows your immaturity and lack of respect for others. It is also against DU rules to treat other members this way.
Grow up. :eyes:

but he's one person. He can't do it alone. All he can do is speak out and vote against it. Same with Bernie. Who are your Senators? Are they dems?

As I said, he can't do it alone. That should be about as obvious as it gets, so save your criticism for those who are going along with the criminal enterprise, not those who are fighting it.

5. Defunding isn't going to happen--not this year. |
|
I have two antiwar Senators who kind of ride the fence on Iraq votes, and they will NEVER defund.

Roboform is so helpful with those contact forms they have. To my senators:
"Leahy wants to defund the Iraq war? GO FOR IT!!!
(And spend a minute or two thinking about defunding the idiocy in Afghanistan, as well.)"

Seriously, right on. This war is criminal. This war is corrupt. It doesn't do anyone any good. Not another dime. No more excuses. No more bullshit.
I hope the presidential candidates are listening. Kucinich, as usual, was the first turn refuse to vote for a supplemental....
This war is beyond redemption. The corruption, waste, and loss are unforgivable. Declare victory, and get the fuck out. We can allocate funding for the Iraqi factions we deem worthy of support in a SEPERATE bill. Similarly, whatever funding needed to get our people out safely and fund the safe escape of refugees can be funded seperately--independent of this president's corrupt claws.
There is simply no excuse for allocating another dime for this evil enterprise.

17. I disagreed with Biden's last vote on this but admired his courage in stating his view early, openly |
|

Biden is a straight shooter. He knew that would hurt his candidacy. He could have quietly voted at the last second but he stated his position early and openly on television. :applause: for Biden's honesty.

Biden is a good man. They accuse him of talking too much sometimes, but I don't see it. He says what's on his mind. And that's better than the lying shits we have in there now!

I believe it was after one of the debates that 'Tweety' or 'Scarface Joe' attacked him on that. It was a friendly attack, but it was obvious, that is what they were trying to imply. So, I guess we should just consider the source.

It will be interesting to see what comes out of that.
About his vote - I was so mad, but at the same time appreciated how he came out 2 days in advance to say how he would vote.
