It's Time for YOU to Post Something Good About a Democrat That's Not Your '08 Choice.
Many here have already decided who they are supporting in '08. That's a good thing.

Many have not decided and are weighing everything carefully. That's a good thing.

But, I'd like to hear some thing good about a candidate that you are not supporting. Let us know who you are supporting and then say something you admire about one of the others in our great field.

And please....don't take this thread to a negative zone. After all, we are all progressives of one sort or another and are not like those miserable freepers. This is the DU and it is a classy neighborhood.

What do you admire in an announced '08 Democratic candidate, that you are not supporting?

1. Gladly.
I think John Edwards is kicking ass strategically, and then I remembered I'm still holding a grudge about that Iraq thing.

He's giving it all he's got and I find that admirable.

2. OK.. this is easy

I am supporting KUCINICH.
There is something I like about ALL of them and that is the fact they are democrats.

I pick Edwards-> I think he is great... and I love his accent and I can promise if he is the next president I will listen to his presidential addresses faithfully without running from the house screaming like a i do now :P

5. No sweat!
I like:

Edwards' stance on poverty and health care

Obama's style

Kucinich's stance on Iraq and his sticking to it

Hillary's organization and cool under fire from left and right

Biden's wit in interviews

Dodd's long term experience

Richardson's foreign relations track record

I'm still a Gore/Dean/Clark wishful thinker, and realize that sooner
rather than later, I'll have to cast a primary vote for one of
the seven mentioned above, but I won't even have to hold my nose.

7. As an Obama supporter, I am fully in agreement with many of Kucinich's views
I met him briefly in 2003 at the Fighting Bob Fest in Baraboo, WI (have some film of his address) and found him to be a genuine person that believes he's doing the right thing.

There are issues I have with how he wants to get things done, yet I know in his heart he means to do the best service for his country. I also have found most Kucinich diehard fans to be very nice people and have a good sense of humor and want to change the country and the World for the better.

Tag. You're it. :hi:

14. My first choice probably won't enter (Gore). That said, I would be
quite proud to vote for ANY of our candidates. ANY of them. They ALL have a lot going for them, and the least of them would be LIGHTYEARS better than the "best" republi-CON.

I like Hillary and think if we're ever going to have a woman president, she'd be a FINE pick. Towering intellect, nimble mind, actually tried to do something about health care when her husband was president. Dignity and grace under fire. Raised an intelligent, poised, well-behaved daughter (compared to at least a couple of skanks I can think of) - tells me a lot about her parenting skills which tells me a lot about her leadership/management/creative/indispensability skills. Charm galore - I'd like to see that "feminine touch" brought to bear on some of our contrary allies, and certainly our adversaries. And she can take a punch (or a few thousand) and remain standing. Besides, the men have been in charge LONG ENOUGH, and look where we are. Time for them to MOVE OVER.

I like Obama a lot. Imagine him as America's Face to the World. A one-man melting pot who probably has the best chance of any of 'em to unite disparate sections of our national community. His bloodlines flow from everywhere. Kinda like America, herself. As a man he is not intimidated not is his manhood threatened by a powerful, articulate, self-actualized woman (kinda like Bill Clinton - which tells me a lot of useful and valuable information about his character). In fact, he married one and remains in love with her. And as with Hillary, the anglos have been in charge LONG ENOUGH, and look where we are. Time for a CHANGE!

I LOVE Richardson's "Hero's Health Card" that let's any veteran get health care ANYWHERE. GREAT buzz-phrase for it, too. Probably the best single idea I've heard out of any of the campaigns yet. And his broad breadth of experience can't be beat. Plus, he comes from one of the statehouses. If he wins, that won't affect our numbers in the House or Senate, and it might be nice to see a Hispanic win the White House. Hispanics in politics could use some rehabilitation after the botch-job alberto gonzales did as their general standard bearer.

I like Edwards a LOT. Same thing can be said for him as far as marrying such a powerful, activist, happening woman - his manhood certainly doesn't seem threatened, either. I like how he's the wealthy success story who champions the poor. I like that A LOT. He seems genuinely compassionate, having known great personal grief, which I think humanizes him and helps him understand the plight of those who suffer and struggle. His win wouldn't affect the numbers in the Senate or House, either, and he does bring that all-(TOO)-important Southern factor to the table.

Dennis Kucinich - what can I say? The purest-of-heart on the war. He called it correctly from the beginning, one of us in the "well, WE knew it was a bad idea back then, why didn't YOU GUYS???" department. He's actually put his name on an IMPEACHMENT resolution. Which means I guess his balls are bigger than the entire city of Washington DC. He seems like the candidate of everyman and the little guy. He speaks from the heart and I hear very little spin or bullshit when he talks. I also like the different and outside-the-box way he thinks about problem solving. And frankly, what's so wrong with having a Department of Peace? Maybe we really should consider a different kind of mindset in our approach to world conflict, 'eh?

Dodd must be doing something correctly. The firefighters sure like him and have given him their endorsement. He was instrumental, along with then-Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle, in the VERY shrewd and under-the-radar maneuvering that encouraged Jim Jeffords to leave the GOP and go independent, caucusing with the Dems. For awhile, that saved the Senate for us. We need that kind of shrewdness in the Big Job. Especially since the bad guys will certainly do everything in their power to gnat-bite us to death if we actually have the nerve to take "their" White House away from them.

Biden seems to be speaking from the heart, too. He's had a lot to say about some pretty sensitive subjects, and I do find it endearing when he comes out with one of those unique one-word answers. You have to go some to match or top his experience in the arena of foreign policy. I like how he speaks his mind, and I think he, too, has been leavened by personal sorrow. Besides, he's one of those "toiling in the back of the vineyard" types who just might deserve a chance at the top of the ziggurat.

Mike Gravel brings a refreshing breeze into some really stale quarters. I really like how he speaks his mind - he had me from "all these people scare me!" He strikes me as a loveable curmudgeon, and I think we'd be likely to have a no-bullshit president if he gets in. And I appreciate his sense of humor while openly acknowledging he's a longshot. His win wouldn't lose us a seat in the House or Senate, either. And we never had anybody from Alaska before.

We have the bench strength this time around. WE do. We have an embarrassment of riches here. Truly, ANY of these candidates would be a plus, INFINITELY PREFERABLE to the purported "best" the bad guys have got. :puke: Unless you like a lot of testosterone complexes, grumpy old men, and charter members of the Flat Earth Society, that is. :eyes:

18. Hillary Clinton is a strong woman, prepared for debates...
and prepared to be President.

John Edwards does a great service in his choice of campaign themes, especially placing the spotlight on poverty. From the death of a young son, to his wife's devastating diagnosis, he carries on and works toward goals we all share.

Bill Richardson is a gifted and experienced diplomat with a list of diplomatic successes to be proud of; he is a fine, effective governor of New Mexico.

Senators Biden and Dodd are outstanding Senators with a wealth of knowledge and years of experience to offer.

Congressman Kucinich has tremendous integrity in sticking with his principles and positions -- and he has a great sense of humor.

On primary day, I'll vote for Barack. In the G.E., I'll vote for him, or for one of the above, with pleasure and pride.

20. I'm pledged to support our ticket and support it I will, although truth be
told, I have favorites just as others seem to, and once they are sorted out, I can enthusiastically support our ticket based on the plus-factors represented by each candidate.

Senator Clinton, though not my first choice for our nomination, would nevertheless weigh carefully and choose wisely at least two new Supreme Court Justices, which would very possibly -- no one can say definitely -- tilt the now-Right Roberts court into a more-left Court, one which would not, for example, be very likely to overturn Roe v. Wade and other landmark legislation.

Her judicial selections would not only be vastly superior to Dubya's, but they would be ones we could live with -- and indeed we do have to live with the Courts our presidents appoint. We're only a handful of months away from Dubya's nomination of Harriet Miers a ways back. That's absolutely a desecration of the process, IMO.

In Senator Clinton, we'd have the benefit of a team of advisors putting together a shortlist of qualified souls to serve on the high Bench.

Also I doubt if any vice presidential choice of Senator Clinton would be of a mind to tell Patrick Leahy, whose committee would affirm and recommend then-President Clinton's nominees, to "go f- yourself," as Mr. Bush's vice president did on the floor of the U.S. Senate.

There'd be better judicial picks and more care given to protocol.

21. Wow, this is an easy one since I believe they are all strong.
Let's go with Gravel then since he is the least likely to get my vote:

He puts it out there for all to see. He has strong beliefs that others take note of and that other candidates must address, thereby keeping them all honest.

I could rave about all the candidates. Seriously, I am so glad I am a Democrat right now because we have some amazing contenders.

To be such an idealist that you cannot find one good thing to say about ANY one else.
Obviously your candidate has little chance of winning a single primary at this point, and it might be a great learning opportunity for you to open your mind to the good things all of the candidates have done in serving the American public in their careers. Each and every one of these candidates has admirable qualities, great skills and a sense of dedication to the nation and the Democratic party. Wish we could say the same about you!
