Should we start monitering possible 2008 Repug candidates? |
|
Edited on Tue Feb-17-04 04:14 PM by mot78
Whether or not we win this year, there will still be Repugs running in 2008, and with the exception of Jeb, most of them would probably run regardless of this election's outcome. People like Rick Santorum, Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Bill Frist, and Jeb if * wins this year. I think we should start digging into their past now, so when they run in 2008, we'll blast them with all we've got.

1. No - first things first |

I'm already sick of the "Who is going to be Kerry's VP" banter here and in the punditry.
But WHEN Bush loses in November, the circular fire squad will lock and load in the GOP...It will be quite fun to watch.

3. Santorum is WAY too polarizing. Guiliani doesn't play well outside NYC. |

Senate.
The only way upstaters will forget about that is if the Buffalo Bisons become the Yankee's farm team.

7. Giuliani may not be viable in the South |

Most Repugs fawn over him, and he's beating Hillary in polls for the 2006 race.
We could knock out Santorum in his 2006 reelection bid, but until then, Freepers will be fawning over him. I have heard pundits say he'll run in 2008.

The Repugs won't nominate Jeb if * loses, because they won't want to nominate somone from a family of TWO one-term Presidents.

12. Don't be so sure about that. |

Remember that the Bush machine has been behind every Republican administration since Eisenhower. Poppy left this country in such a wretched state that there's no way any of his spawn should have ever made the ballot. And of course Junior has exceeeded his father's failures in every way imaginable. There's no question they'll try to run either Jeb or another of their puppets like Colin Powell in 2008. And if people are stupid enough to vote for anyone remotely connected with the Bushes again, then they deserve whatever they get as a result.

(a half-hearted attempt to one-up the Republicans' method of governance.)
Issue an executive order to kill the first born male child in every Republican household.

13. These are the republicans who I think might run |
|
Gov. Bill Owens (CO) Sen. Bill Frist (TN) Sen. George Allen (VA) Sen. Rick Santorum (PA) Gov. Mitt Romney (MA) Gov. Rick Perry (TX) Gov. George Pataki (NY) Gov. Jeb Bush (FL) Fmr. Mayor Rudy Giuliani (NY) Gov. Bob Ehrlich (MD) Sen. Jon Kyl (AZ) Sec. Tom Ridge (PA) Sen. Chuck Hagel (NE) Sen. Norm Coleman (MN) Gov. Mark Sanford (SC)
Obviously, not all of these will run but they are pretty much every republican that I think might very well run and would have a serious chance of winning even though I think the northeasterners who are pro-choice won't surive in the primaries.
