Obama is new to national campaigning. He needs a news headline like this to get him some free publicity ... and signing up someone of this stature THIS EARLY would do it for him.... catapulting him ahead of the "both-sides-of-their-mouth" politicians like Hillary.

Lock-in a VP co-campaigner before a primary happens, the way to go! Clarke will do it!

I don't think he CAN "sign him up" publicly. If Obama didn't win the nomination and someone else wanted Clark, what would he say? He'd be seen as being the VP to someone other than he really wanted, sadly. It WOULD be GREAT if Obama, with Clark's permission, if Clark doesn't run himself, could announce Clark would certainly be his VP if he won the nomination, but I don't think it could happen. :(
