(Probably Stupid) Idea To Make Damn Sure We're All Touched By The War
An important reason for We The People not forcing an end to the Iraq War is that this war doesn't touch most Americans. It is largely invisible. Unlike Vietnam, we do not see footage of the carnage and the coffins - these have been censored by our clever elected officials.

It's far too easy to ignore what's not in front of us - so we do ignore it, because thinking about it is so painful. So perhaps we need to take steps to ensure that the war's toll is kept in front of us all, so we all feel the pain - and we all actively want it to stop.

My thought is to plaster our towns with pictures of the Americans who have been killed in this insane adventure. Slap pictures on telephone polls, bulletin boards, walls, street signs - all over. Put a little bio on each one - some personal things about them, who they left behind, and so forth. Make it a fitting memorial to a person who gave their all in the belief that they were helping us.

To really bring the war home, perhaps pictures of nearby residents that have been killed could be used. Maybe it would be possible to also put up pictures of the grievously wounded, complete with prostheses and so forth, if the subjects gave permission. In theory, pictures of the Iraqi dead could also be used - but sadly, most people wouldn't relate to that.

I'd like each of us to think about the catastrophe in Iraq that we've unleashed and continue to stubbornly fuel. To think about it several times a day, and feel the pain that we should for the suffering that we continue to cause. Perhaps then we'll finally demand an end to it, and start to hold accountable those who started it.
