Question for any Democratic Party "big wigs" who might read this board
Edited on Sat Sep-01-07 10:35 PM by LuckyTheDog
Or, for anyone with the ear of any Democratic "bigs." I don't really expect an answer. But it is a question I hope the Democratic leadership is asking behind closed doors:

What is the Democratic Party's plan for action if (as people like Paul Craig Roberts have suggested could happen) Bush finds or creates an excuse to remain in power after January of 2009? Or if the elections in 2008 are "postponed" in order to deal with a "national emergency" of some kind?

In other words: what is your contingency plan for responding to a fascist takeover? I, for one, sure hope you have one. It is better to have a plan and never have to use it than it is to face a crisis without any plan at all.

2. That would be preemption of the best kind
But, it also is a move that could very well lead to a fascist takeover. In fact, I think that could be one of the reasons why Bush and Cheney have not been impeached -- fear about what they might do if cornered.

The question here is what would/could the Dems do if Bush or some future GOP president staged a fascist-style takeover? They need a plan. They need to decide who would do what and when -- who would work from outside the country, who would lead protests here, what tactics would be acceptable and unacceptable, etc.

Like I said: It's better to have a plan and not need it than to need a plan and not have it.

4. Thom Hartmann... on his radio program has asked this question..
...of several Democratic "consultants" and at least two politicians, including Sen. Bernie Sanders. With all due respect to Sen. Sanders, an awesome man of the people, they all are in total denial that anything like a fascist takeover would ever occur here in the U.S. ... it's totally unbelieveable to me... our Dem politicians should have a contingency plan. The OP says it best... "It is better to have a plan and never have to use it than it is to face a crisis without any plan at all."

Check out this article by Dr. Justin Frank - "The Dangers of a Cornered George Bush":
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/7/27/223520/697

This article has convinced me that immediate impeachment proceedings need to be implemented in order for our military commanders to stand down if and when they recieve war orders from BushCo... with the President and Vice-President under impeachment, pending indictment from the Senate..

<snip>
If the constitutional process of impeachment is under way when President Bush orders our military to begin a war against Iran, there is a good chance that, rather than salute like automatons and start World War III, our senior military would find a way to prevent more carnage until such time as the representatives of the people in the House have spoken. This administration’s capacity for mischief would not end until conviction in the Senate. But initiating the impeachment process appears to be the only way to launch a shot across the bow of this particular ship of state. For it is captained by a president with a psychological makeup likely to lead to shipwreck unless the Constitution is brought alongside and a new pilot boarded.
<end>

Great question, Lucky... I've contacted my Sens and Reps and I'll do so again asking "what is your contingency plan for responding to a fascist takeover?"

:hi:

6. There doesn't need to be a plan
because he's not going to do it.

his term will end in January, 2009.

He can't postpone elections - the federal government doesn't run elections - states do.
