Kudos to Florida Democratic Chair, Karen Thurman.
From an email just now. The tone of it is appreciated.

Special Message from Chairwoman Karen L. Thurman: Update on Primary Situation

I hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day Weekend. As you may have heard, on Friday and Saturday, the Democratic Presidential candidates signed a pledge to not campaign in any state, other than the four pre-authorized states (IA, NV, NH, SC), that holds its primary prior to Feb. 5, 2008. Of course, Florida's state-run Presidential Preference Primary is scheduled for one week prior to that date. This came on the heels of a DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee meeting to penalize Florida Democrats with a 100% delegate reduction if our delegates are not selected on Feb. 5 or later.

This is obviously a difficult situation, but I want to assure you that your Party, Democratic Congressional Delegation, DNC members and other Democratic leaders are working hard to find a solution that is amenable to the DNC, the Chairs of the four pre-authorized states, the candidates and, most of all, Florida Democrats. We hope to be making an announcement in the coming weeks.

Until then, we strongly encourage you to keep your eyes on the prize and continue moving forward with laying the groundwork for victory in November 2008. Use that voter file, talk to your friends and neighbors, sign up to be a delegate to the state convention, and get involved. These intra-party discussions shouldn't distract us from the real goal or let the Republicans get the upper hand. No matter which cards we're dealt, we must deliver our state's 27 electoral votes - and the Presidency - to the Democratic nominee. The country needs us.

Stay tuned for more information. Thank you for your hard work.
-KLT

Nice email, and thanks to her for that.

She is right to remind us that the electoral votes still count very much. She is the first to mention that the votes were not affected for the electoral college. That is how it should have been handled from the beginning.

If they are conciliatory, I will be also

2. That IS good news
That is all any of us want, a solution that allows our votes to count in the primary (or whatever we end up with), and that doesn't break the prior agreed to rules, thus drawing the inevitable and correct sanction.

3. She will need luck. Another op ed tonight....the anger is spreading.
At least I felt good about it for about an hour or so.

"What are Howard Dean and the Democratic National Committee thinking? They have threatened the Florida Democratic Party with forfeiture of all its delegates to the national convention if Florida holds its presidential preference primary on Jan. 29.

The DNC intends to disenfranchise Democratic voters in the nation's fourth most populous state!"

Still lying:

.."Why are we being punished for the actions of a Republican-controlled Legislature? True enough, the Democrats voted overwhelmingly for the plan, but the bill to move the primary to Jan. 29 was tacked onto legislation allowing for paper trails in our state elections. That was something the Democrats have struggled to get for seven years."

We must resist the bullying of the DNC. We will have our primary in January, and we will lead the Democratic Party to an overwhelming victory in November 2008."

Amaru is chairman of the Indian River County Democratic Party.

Perhaps as chairman of the county he should be better informed instead of spouting erroneous talking ponts.
