Nagin thinking of run for governor |
|
NEW ORLEANS — Mayor Ray Nagin could be days away from announcing he will run for governor of Louisiana — a move many in this stricken city regard as preposterous.
If Nagin runs, he will do so on his stewardship of New Orleans. But this is a city in great distress two years after Hurricane Katrina, with large swaths still empty, an appalling murder rate and a sluggish recovery. Nagin's disapproval rating was 65 percent in a recent poll.
"He's clearly seeing his election potential differently than most of Louisiana. Statewide, Ray Nagin is dead in the water," said G. Pearson Cross, an assistant professor of politics at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
The jokes just write themselves.

didn't you see the picture of smirk with his hands on either side of Nagin's face/head and Nagin's body was all defeated looking, his hands just dangling loose.

I grew up in Louisiana, and the sad state of thievery, crookery, lying and everything else was one of the things that propelled me to become a Republican. (Pretty ironic considering the state of the Republican Party these days. I know.) I'm back in the Democratic party, but thankfully, I am OUT of Louisiana. I feel sorry for the people there, but I still hate going back to visit relatives. It's very depressing.

4. He's very out of touch. I still am pissed |
|
at the way he slandered his own people during the Katrina fiasco.

6. I know Nagin has his fans here |
|
but I'm not one of them. IMHO he was among those who did a poor job during Katrina and while I'm not in New Orleans from what I've seen and read he's not exactly doing a great job post-Katrina.
If he runs for governor I really think he is delusional.

Most politicians have to be delusional to run for office in Louisiana.
