Clintons make the talk show rounds: "still America's first family"
LAT: Clintons make the talk show rounds
With five appearances between them in two days, Bill and Hillary Clinton have no shortage of publicity.
By Peter Nicholas, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
September 5, 2007

WASHINGTON -- Bill Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton don't have to scramble for national publicity; it flows to them. On Tuesday and again today, the couple demonstrates the raw power of celebrity, with scheduled appearances on five national television shows just as the Democratic presidential primary race enters its most competitive stage.

In a post-Labor Day blitz, the former president made appearances Tuesday on Oprah Winfrey's talk show and the "Late Show with David Letterman," while the New York senator got the warmest of receptions on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show.

"I don't know if you know this, but I'm gay," DeGeneres said.

"What!" said the Democratic front-runner, in mock surprise....

***

Bill Clinton is to appear today on the "Today" show and "Larry King Live." He is promoting his wife's candidacy, of course, but also his new book about philanthropy and service, "Giving."...

***

Hank Sheinkopf, a Democratic political strategist, said the Clintons were capitalizing on the public's fascination with them, using their appeal to reach millions of viewers largely on their own terms. "They are still America's first family," he said. "They have lived a kind of serial program that has been on the air, without repeats, for nearly 20 years -- and the American public intends to keep tuning in."...

1. The more America sees of the Clintons, the higher their positive numbers will rise.

2. Not with my family - - I've polled the entire extended family
The Democrats, the Republicans and the independents in my family have made their minds up about the Clintons - - and they don't think much of them.

9. Check the polls that break down HRC's unfavorables by party for a scientifically supported position
I just responded to an unsupported post "the more America sees the Clintons, the higher their favorables will go" (paraphrase) with my own subjective experience. Most of the posts on the candidate threads are completely subjective any more - - or are... to put it chartiably... logically challenged. If you're gonna start demanding everybody stop posting their subjective experiences, you're gonna be spending every second of your time posting here.

I'm just sayin'...

15. He was great on Letterman last night
& it does feel good to see him around again. It feels damn good.

To have not only experience & intelligence, but the absolute brilliance of "two" people in the WH whom we can count on gives one a sense of hope where there has been none for a very long time.

18. Bill Clinton will probably work for ANY Dem. president...
We don't need his wife in the WH to use the talents of the Big Dawg.

22. That was what was so hopeful
about experiencing his presence on Letterman last night and it made the glaring contrast with our current president all the more noticeable. I believe he will promote ANY Dem. He didn't smear anyone on the show last night. He talked about character, qualifications and strengths.

That really is how it should be.

24. Yes we do. We need her.
Time to do the right thing. I see Obama is talking tough about Iran. I saw Hillary in my town and she was wonderful and so deeply interested in the kids at a school. I wouldn't put her down for anyone. No one is better than she is.

26. I don't think so.
Her husband will be great for ANY Dem. Obama tells us how he feels. Hillary said presidents SHOULDN'T always say what they feel. She's always triangulating-trying to look Repub.-lite so no-one can call her a "crazy lib." or "far left." She takes overly-cautious positions, like voting for the IWR, IMO knowing Bush would use that green light to invade Iraq, but still voting for it for political reasons. She knew very well she'd be running for president and wanted to be on the "right" side of the war.

17. Let's see them do Amy Goodman's show again-the one from 2000 was a classic
Another interview like that would put an end to this fake "heroes of the left" nonsense and expose them for the corporatist warhawks that they are

21. I'm the OP, love the Clintons and all the candidates --
but support Obama. That family, frankly, looks like the young Kennedys. An absolutely beautiful family, perfect for the White House!

I love BILL Clinton but not Hillary. But I WILL vote for her in the general IF she's the nominee. I agree about Obama's family. :)

20. I hope ANY dems that go on the circuit do well, as it helps the Dem "brand"
No matter whether they are the nominee or not, getting people thinking about how much better life could be with dems at the helm IS A GOOD THING.

I know the primary drill of snarky barroom brawls, but I just thought I would say that.
Good appearance by a dem is good for the party - and the more support the party has, the more progressives can make some...progress!
