GOP aide says Craig decision to reconsider resignation 'defies reality'
Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID) apparently didn't call his colleagues in the Senate before expressing his intent to change his mind on resigning his seat.

GOP leaders are shocked; one Senate aide told Politico Craig's announcement "defies reality."

Craig is "losing any goodwill built up among his colleagues," a senior Republican strategist told the Capitol Hill website. "He is simply a fish out of water, floundering right now to get his last gasp of political air."

"It simply defies reality," declared a Senate GOP aide. "You can't make this up even if you are heavily medicated. The American people heard from Larry Craig that he would resign, and using the word 'intent' as a back door doesn't work with them."

As the article states: The Pubbies are NOT amused!

WTF didn't Craig think about all of this BEFORE he made his announcement...or was the announcement cleverly worded using the word "intend" to just get the pack of Pubbie dogs off his back until he could decided what to do?

This is just so much of a freaking soap opera. As far as I am concerned, a misdemeanor bust is not enough to force him out...so why would he play it this way unless he had something to hide. I could not care less if he is gay, bi or straight...but obviously the Pubbies feel differently.

3. Craig played them--he knew he was going to fight, he'd spoken
with Arlen Specter, and he worded his announcement carefully. More power to you, Larry.

5. I also noticed some of the reporters snickering while relating this
Craig story today. Apparently at least some of them find all the Pub squirming pretty funny!

6. The entire GOP "defies reality"..
Actually I'm surprised how many DU'ers are falling for this new Craig news. At this point Craig is being used as a calculated distraction from Bush's massive failures in Iraq. The last thing Craig wants is a trial, although he does want his wife and family to believe he's not gay. Because in his mind, being gay is the worst of all sins.

7. I'd like to think he's messing with their minds for turning on him so
whole heartedly. I hope he sticks around for awhile. The real cool thing would be if he has an epiphany, and renounces his intolerant past.

9. I don't think they ever...
...intended for him to resign any more then they did Vitter.

Doing it this way just allows them to distance themselves right now. Later when the smoke clears away and the debris is clear it's all going to be cozy again.

It's just political tactics and nothing more.

Feigned outrage is just BS with spray paint and the pubs fav aqua velva on it. It might not be brown, it might not smell like shit at first whiff, but scratch the surface and you'll see and smell it for what it really is.

11. FIght, Larry. Fight! Don't let the Democrat (sic) Party drive you from office!
We need a wide-stance Republican on Capitol Hill.
