YAY! Tim Johnson is Returning To Work In the Senate!
Today, after months of painful and frustrating rehabilitation, my dear friend Tim Johnson is returning to work in the Senate. What a wonderful day it is!

Nine months ago, a terrible brain injury left Tim near death and in emergency surgery. As his family and friends rallied to his side, the determined work of a team of doctors saved his life. That's when the real work began. While Tim's mind remained as agile as ever, his injury left him unable to speak or move his body. But Tim -- who is one of the most determined people I know -- refused to let that stop him.

He spent hours in painful and frustrating physical therapy learning again how to talk and walk. His wife Barb spent those months at his side, helping him every step of the way. "It wasn't pretty," she said of Tim's daily struggle to recover. "But it was beautiful."

Now Tim needs our help. Even while Tim was still in recovery, Republican Senator John Ensign (R-NV), who is heading the 2008 Republican Senate campaign effort, announced that Tim was a "top target" next year. While Tim focuses on serving the people of South Dakota and continuing his rehabilitation, my Democratic colleagues and I are helping him get his 2008 re-election campaign off to a strong start -- and I'm asking you to stand with us.

Please stand with me and support Tim Johnson -- contribute to Tim's re-election campaign today!

All of Tim's effort has gone into his recovery and his work in the Senate -- it's up to us to make sure that this good and faithful public servant has the resources he needs to win the tough race ahead of him.

Let me tell you something about Tim Johnson. He's not flashy. He doesn't run for the cameras. Instead, he is one of the most dedicated public servants I know. He spends his time fighting for people who work hard, but don't make a lot of money. People who struggle to pay their bills and send their kids to college.

Now, the Republican leadership in the Senate wants to replace a man who has spent his life fighting for working families with another rubber stamp Republican. And we know what the Republicans are rubber stamping: a tragic war, opposition to health insurance for our kids, the most anti-environment agenda ever, and an administration that has made the most dramatic grab for power in my lifetime.

We can't let the rubber stamp Republicans beat Tim next November.

Please stand with me and support Tim Johnson -- contribute to Tim's re-election campaign today!

Democrats have a one seat majority in the Senate right now. One seat. This seat. We need to defend it with everything we have. Not just because it will keep the Senate in the hands of Democrats -- but because it is the best way to honor the values Tim has fought for all his life: courage, decency, and the right of all of us to live a life of opportunity.

It's time to show Republicans that if they think that Tim will be an easy target, they are very mistaken.

Donate to Tim Johnson today. Give him the resources he needs to fight and win.

When I talked to Tim on the phone last week, I asked him what he had missed the most these past 9 months. He told me he has missed the fight we are engaged in to stand up for the people who need us.

That's Tim Johnson -- and that's why it's so good to have him back.

It's time to take Tim Johnson off the Republican target list. We don't need another Republican rubber stamp in the Senate -- we need people like Tim.

Let's keep him there.

In Friendship,

Barbara Boxer
U.S. Senator

P.S. I want to personally welcome Tim Johnson back to the Senate today with terrific news of how our PAC for a Change online community has given his 2008 re-election campaign a huge boost. Please contribute to Tim's campaign today! Whatever you can give -- whether it's $20, $200, or $200 -- will make a huge difference. Thank you.

2. Learning to talk does not come from PT...........
"He spent hours in painful and frustrating physical therapy learning again how to talk and walk."

Just to clear this up, physical therapists do not teach people how to talk. Senator Johnson has been working with Physical and Occupational Therapy, as well as Speech-Language Pathology to assist him with his rehabilitative needs.

As a South Dakota, who is also an SLP, I wish our dear Senator nothing but the best in his rehab endeavors. He has a long tough road ahead of him.

I'm sure it was an innocent mistake, Senator Boxer, but we SLP's already do not get enough credit. Just making sure that the reading audience know the Senator is getting all of the appropriate therapies that are required to facilitate a speedy recovery.
