More Departures For Thompson Team (WaPo)
More Departures For Thompson Team
Michael D. Shear

On the eve of his big day, Fred Thompson has let another staffer go.

Jim Mills, the former Fox News producer who joined the campaign only weeks ago, has resigned due to "strategic differences." This from campaign manager Bill Lacy in a memo to the staff, sent out Tuesday "just before we begin the Big Dance."

----------------------------------------------------------

Mills, who was hired away from Fox in July, is the latest to depart Thompson's operation, which has been hit by one resignation after another as the candidate retooled his senior staff over the summer. Linda Rozett was hired away from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to serve as the communications director, only to leave after Lacy replaced former manager Tom Collamore. Harris replaced Rozett.

At Lacy's direction, Thompson is purging his staff of people with little campaign experience and replacing them with a traditional campaign staff. Mills has been replaced by Karen Hanrety, a former spokeswoman for California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Jeff Sadosky, who worked on the communications staff for the 2004 Bush reelection campaign.

1. I read that it's his wife who's causing a heck of a lot of trouble.
Why? She wants to run the whole show and boss people around.

2. I'll say this for Fred: Unlike Bush, he's willing to fire people
OK, it's not saying much but it's about the nicest thing I can say about him.

6. Your mama raised you right.
But that said, so many staff changes sounds to me like the guy on the top isn't offering clear leadership and motivation.

4. All campaign goes through this sort of thing, in particular when
things are about to take a change....in this case, guess Freddy guy will be announcing.

I believe that the reporting on this is nothing more than a tempest in a teapot.

Romney will probably be paying good money to watch the Thompson campaign fall apart...which is what the media will make sure happens. One can tell that they are going to do this......and this article is more of that.

I don't like Fred Thompson anymore than the other Repugs running, but this is silly.

5. He's gone through 8 senior staff members in a matter of weeks--
who leaves after being hired only a few weeks before, on the eve of a campaign kickoff? This staffer gave up a job at Fox News, and now is unemployed. Read this also, from Fox News:

Things aren't lookin' so good. Seems there are some on the staff who disagree with the Big Launch.
