North Carolina Poll: Clinton leads Edwards (PPP)
Edited on Thu Sep-06-07 02:55 PM by Aya Reiko
Hillary Clinton 30% (+1)
John Edwards 28% (-1)
Barack Obama 21% (-2)
Other 12% (+2)
Undecided 10% (+2)

This does not bode well for Edwards. If he can't even hold his own home state, just how good are his prospects elsewhere?

6. No, it isn't good from a PR standpoint.
The NC primary isn't until May but the impression that his home state doesn't want him could hurt.

4. Polls? Let see what the exit poll is and the returns. It would look bad for
Edwards if Hillary beats him in his own state. Right now, I don't believe polls.

5. Still early with Undecided at 10%
It all depends on what happens in Iowa and New Hampshire first...

7. Issues - Democratic Primary
War in Iraq 41%
Economy and jobs 18%
Health care 15%
Education 9%
Moral or family values 6%
Immigration 6%
Taxes 4%

I'm surprised how low values and immigration are as concerns.

8. As for immigration...
This is North Carolina, they probably could care less about immigration. Though I am also a bit surprised family values rated this low.

9. It's a pretty conservative state, no?
I would have expected immigration to have been peddled there as the devil.

10. Edwards didn't bring in his home state in the 2004 election -
- it appears they've not had a change of heart.

12. I think some NC Democrats blame him for losing that seat
It's hard to get those seats in red states and when politicians give them up without a worthy successor, it could be seen as them putting their self interest over the interest of their state and country. That was the argument I heard in 2004, at least. It may still apply for 2008.

16. He didn't run for re-election because he was going to lose
He was running for President from the moment he took his Senate office and this was more than obvious. I guaranteed he would lose if he ran again, and he was smart not to run. If he had run and lost his political career would already be over.

13. Big Bill didn't carry the state in his first term, can't remember if he did in the 2nd T
However during his senate campaign, the media had everyone thinking Edwards would loose the race..but he didn't...wouldn't put much in any thing N.C. says/
