Is there any chance a Democrat can win Craig's Senate seat? |
|
I know Idaho is redder than red, but the times they are a changing.

1. A senator is appointed to finish out a term...they will appoint a republican |
|
who will then be the incumbent...not a chance..well a small, tiny, itsy bitsy chance, maybe?

3. As always - depends on who runs for the seat after the new guy is appointed by the gov. |

It's a pretty hardcore GOP area, but a maverick candidate might slip by if another scandal plagues any GOP replacements. Someone with good moderate credentials, a populist message and plenty of national prominence would have a shot under such circumstances.

That state is about as red as it gets.

6. Actually, there is a chance |
|
His name is Larry LaRocca and he's a former rep. It may not be a huge chance, but it's not outside the realm of possibility.

11. And it's likely that he'd be running against Jim Risch, the current Lt. Gov.. |
|
Some numbers for the curious - the last time Jim Risch ran against Larry LaRocca, Risch pulled about 60% of the vote. I'd say your description is right on the nose. Unlikely, but possible. Another bathroom moment would break the race wide open, but Democrats can't always count on the GOP self destructing right before an election...

7. What about Gov. Schweitzer? |
|
Would he consider a run, do you think?
I'd love to see him in the Senate!

9. That's Montana, not Idaho. |
|
Montana has a Dem governor (Schweitzer) and two Dem senators (Baucus and Tester).

10. Aw... I thought it was too good to be true..... |
|
Just like "Henry" and "Harry" are the same name to me some days, now that I'm "that age".... "Idaho" and "Montana" are the same state.
Gotta stick to my meds.... ;) LOL!

It's weird how Dems can win in Montana but not Idaho. Idaho is too much like Wyoming, methinks. Just no culture at all, mostly old mormon people.

Montana has more union influence because of mining and railroads, more populist influence from the farming decades, some Irish Catholic Democrats stuff going on, plus the reservations. It's a very different state than Idaho.
