I was reading her magazine in an office lobby yesterday and couldn't get over all the articles about making your marriage work - relighting the flame - stuff like that....
I've been married 27 years. She's never been married. I was doing alot of headscratching.

everyone seems to forget her having chimpy on her show when he was running - it shot him to the lead in the polls. She also had several politicians on helping sell the war in Iraq. Do not trust her political judgement at all due to that.

22. The PBS special with Bill Moyers on selling the war |
|
showed how Oprah was part of the media assault on the American people. This alone, participating in scamming America, is enough for me not to trust her politically.
Do not mistake me as an Oprah basher, I am not. She has done amazing things in her career. I just think she needs to stay out of the political arena. Her viewers have elevated her and her opinions to almost cult status.

Either Oprah is overworked and depends heavily on her producers to do her legwork and research for which she fails to double-check....or Oprah is starting to ascend into the world where mega-riches obscure her view.
I am not sure which it is, but both question her credibility on personal selections.

Dr Phil counseled Oprah during her lawsuit with the Cattleman's association. When they claimed irreparable harm and damaged financially when she Pooh-poohed red meat as responsible for people's high cholesterol. And as a result, the price of beef (on the hoof) plummeted.
She won the suit with Dr Phil's help. His knowledge of people's personalities during the Jury selection process was instrumental in her winning the suit. Dr Phil went on to appearing weekly on her show and was very well received by her audience to the point of being offered his own show. I personally like him. Phil has helped many people and will find a way of getting the necessary help for people even if someone can't afford treatment. He regularly advocates for children. If thats an effin moron, I'll take him every time over a Liberal Moron..

While I am sure it means a lot to a certain segment of the population, it saddens me that this will probably be how some people make up their mind on who to vote for in the election.

14. Actually I vote for a 4th option: |
|
It won't influence my vote, and I doubt it will influence other's votes either, at least in a big way. Sometimes I'll read a book she's recommended (actually "The Poisonwood Bible" was first recommended by Hillary Clinton, and then Oprah put it on her book list. We read it for my book club and it was a great, great read that I recommend to anyone here).
As I said on another thread, this is a one time thing by Oprah. She is largely apolitical, but I think she is attracted to Obama's hopeful message, which is in line with her world view. They're both from Chicago, AA, and successful, so they also have that in common.

However, I know a friend who will do whatever she says. I was talking to her last week and she told me specifically that "of course" she is supporting Clinton because she is a woman. However this girl also watches Oprah every day, buys every book and worships at the alter that is O... when Oprah says to her it is okay for a woman not to vote for Clinton, I have no doubt her opinion will change.

This is one self absorbed woman who totally turns me off. As a powerful TV personality, she should showcase all the candidates equally or stay out of politics. Jon Stewart, and Bill Maher invite all the candidates to appear on their shows and don't show a preference for any of them.

Oprah's, or anyone's, endorsement has zero effect on my vote. I feel competent enough to do my own evaluation and make my own choice, thanks.
That has nothing to do with book recommendations. I've never gotten a book because she recommended it, but I've read some great books that she has also recommended. She has good taste in literature, imo. If I ever ran out of things to read, I might check out her list.
I just don't. Run out, that is. As a former librarian, I know how to find books that will interest me. :D
