Poll question: "Religion" and the Presidency |
|
Some seem to think that "religion" (not "faith"... "religion") is a necessary component to the value system of a candidate for POTUS. Each of our MODERN presidents has been a Christian, and yet, I FEEL, very few have acted as Christ would have if he were POTUS.
This is not an anti-Christian poll. (I would be delighted if we had a Christian POTUS who actually had values that mirrored those of Christ.) But, given that "religion" is seen as a necessary component of candidacy, which of THESE non-Christian religions will be the LAST to be elected to the Presidency? If you want, take a guess as to WHEN that'll happen, too.

Christian fundies have been bad enough.

10. What about Keith Ellison? |
|
Not your congressman but he's hardly an extremeist or are all Muslims extremists in your world?

11. I don't know much about him, but he seems a good guy. |
|
Is there anyone here who has him as their Congressman? What's he like? I'd like to learn more.

3. I assume you mean the politician is publicly acknowledged to be |
|
one of these -- I would not be surprised if we have already had an atheist president or two, but not publicly acknowledged to be such.
I think it's a bit of a draw between Wiccan (goddam satanists) and atheist (goddam commie). Of the two, maybe, barring any intervening inquisitions and with growing knowledge of Wicca, I'd say maybe a Wiccan could be elected before an atheist. In another couple hundred years.

13. So, as things stand now... DU feels that the U.S. would elect an atheist before they would a Wiccan. |
|
But DU also thinks the U.S. will elect a Muslim before it elects an atheist.
Very interesting!
