Re: Craig, Foley, Vitter, et. al. -- Remember, Dem pols have secrets too!
And you can bet that wire-tapper Bush and his CIA-boss father know all the dirty details. Do you doubt Bush would use threats of exposure to influence voting -- say, on matters of impeachment?

Suppose you're a Dem politician with a "scandal" in his past facing threat of exposure by Bush. Do you think that folks like us -- progressive net-rooters, DUers -- would turn on you with the
same unholy glee we're showing with Craig, Foley, Gannon, Vitter, etc.

The answer is: Absolutely not. The difference is the GOP's hypocrisy.

If you're keeping a mistress, or you stabbed someone in a bar fight 40 years ago, or you borrowed from a client's escrow fund, or your grandfather was in the mafia, or you're secretly gay, or some other "scandal" -- don't think that we would judge you by the same harsh standards as we do these family-value goody-goods caught in their lies.

And, folks, let's not be a group marked by over-excitement at other people's sexual pecadilloes. That's the other team. We have to focus on fixing the economy, rebuilding the infrastructure, dealing with climate change, and repairing our international relationships.

(I'm feeling serious, sipping wine this Saturday night.)

1. I would like to think that we WOULD turn on a fellow
Democrat that "borrowed from a client's escrow fund" or engaged any form of dirty financial dealing or bribery. I don't care about a persons private sex life (so long as they aren't pedophiles or hurting animals or the like... in other words, if you are doing something with other consenting adults, I don't care). I agree with you about the hypocrisy part, but I'm a little uncomfortable "outing" every gay republican (even if they are hypocrites of the highest order).

2. Without rancor I say "Bullshit"
I don't care if you are Republican, Democrat, or like me a screaming Maoist...a crooked Democrat is ALSO a hypocrite and I want them jailed...

3. My point is that nearly everyone has embarassing secrets in their past.
Allowing exposure of those secrets to ruin careers gives too much power to the media and snoopers.

What counts is what you're doing NOW. 'Fess up and move on.

But I can see I may not have convinced anyone except myself.
