Giuliani said US crime reduction would have been small if not for NYC. Here are the numbers
Edited on Sun Sep-09-07 08:11 AM by antiimperialist
Crime in the United States went down 25% during Giuliani's tenure as a NYC mayor. He told us on a speech to the Manhattan Institute (now home of Judith Miller) that the reduction would have been "fairly small" if NYC is taken out of the equation.

But Politifact.com, an independent website that exposes both Republicans and Democrats' exaggerations and lies, has found that this nationwide reduction would have been 23%, down from 25%, an insignificant change, if NYC is factored out.

Rudolph Giuliani is a liar.
Politifact says it all in this sentence: "Sorry, New York is not that big".

1. This is one of those mind-numbingly frustrating issues that
desperately needs a giant megaphone and a shovel to whack people with and yell, "GIT THIS, DAMMIT!"

Violent crime, all over the country, declined, year by year, for approximately a decade, starting roughly in 1993. The reasons for this decline, and it's reversal and rapid climb during the * administration, are much discussed and still not very clear, but it seems related to actual high employment--instead of the moving goal posts trickery going on now--and better economic times.

Whether or not Ghouliani contributed to the decline or hindered it is not obvious. His claims of responsibility, given the lack of definitive detail, does not have a fifty--fifty chance of being right; it's one hundred - zero. It's one hundred percent wrong because he's staking a claim that's not his nor his to make. What a sour, vile little limp pretzel.

6. Cops On The Streets
social programs, and better economy. I think the new gun laws helped too. I love how these local politicians blather about their successes while criticizing the federal policies that allowed the successes.

2. Plus there were fewer young adults around the country at the time. Why the crime stats
went down all across the country. Had very little to do with G.

5. Kick!
Good to see SOMEBODY is fact-checking. Somebody else. In addition to the folks at MediaMatters.org. We need LOTS of these at work vetting and debunking the bullshit.
