Even if these early numbers do not hold up, this is a tremendous shot in the arm for his candidacy. If they do hold up, it is an extraordinary success, for which the gentleman deserves every congratulation and credit.

112. Still, My Friend, Most Impressive
All involved deserve congratulations. This will doubtless thin the field in a manner useful to the Party, and a competion between these two fellows will be of benefit. They have the wisdom to turn their fire on the enemy rather than one another, to promote their own strengths in order to attract support.

Within MoE, but it clearly looks like Kerry will win. Great showing though by Edwards.

Edited on Tue Feb-17-04 09:12 PM by SadEagle
... is who decided when statistic --- among people who decided in the last 3 days, Edwards got 44% of the vote, and Kerry 28%. So great job campaigning by Sen. Edwards

Also, the "vote by what factor" statistic: people who vote by issues put Sen.Edwards at 38%, and John Kerry at 28%; much of Kerry's support comes from people who vote on the electability thing

By the way, he's winning by being a nice guy. Some of the Edwards supporters, and it could just be a couple I'm talking about, need to lay off Kerry. I like Edwards better than Kerry but a lot of the attacks I'm been defending Kerry from are posted by people with Edwards avatars. Please be cool so you don't drive people away from your candidate.

49. Wisconsin owes me on this.
Twenty eight years ago, I went to bed thinking my guy Mo Udal had won his first primary there. All of the networks 'cept CBS had called it.

Then the rural returns came in late and Carter pulled into the lead and eventually won it.

What a bummer the next morning was.

Wow, I just brought myself down from being high on Edwards' performance tonight.

With 2% in, he leads with 40% to Kerry's 37%!

All the networks except CBS have declared a winner in the Wisconsin primary, just as they did in '76 between Carter and Udall.

Sometime during the night, everyone but CBS had egg on their faces.

62. I have gained a lot of respect for Edwards...
After that last debate. I thought that he did an excellent job, especially when the moderator asked him whether or not he felt responsibility for the lives lost in Iraq. He answered what Kerry should have answered: "Of course." I think that was really awesome of him. Way to go, Edwards with this close contest in Wisconsin.

The difference between Kerry and Edwards was never more clear. If Edwards pulls this off, that will be the moment where everything changed. I'm still a Dean supporter, but I might consider contributing a little to Edwards. I wouldn't have any problem voting for him in November.

89. Edwards Needs Your Help!
I'm short on funds, but I just sent another $50 to the Edwards campaign.

JRE needs cash in order to compete March 2nd in 10 States! We have to go for Georgia and Ohio mostly, but we want to grab as many delegates as possible.

If you like Edwards and you believe, like I do, that he has the best chance to beat Bush, then contribute NOW!

http://www.johnedwards2004.com/john_edwards.asp

From 9% to 37% in one week.

Of the 18% that were Dean voters, I gotta believe more will switch to Edwards than to Kerry after Dean drops out. If Dean endorses Edwards, like I think he will, that will be a big boost.

Help out JRE! He's the best the Dems have to offer this election. Listen to Kerry whine about cherry-picking...

We're in the game, folks...

95. Absolutely
...he was at 9% in Wisconsin 4 days ago.

He was 10 points down in NC in 1998 a month before the election against an entrenched GOP incumbent .... and he won going away.

People who underestimate John Edwards always end up looking like fools.

As VP, he wouldn't win NC - because people dont vote for VP... and as someone who spends a lot of time in NC, I know these people wouldn't vote for Kerry.

But they would vote for Edwards...

Absolutely he would win his own state.... He would win every single state that Kerry would win..... plus more.

I'll turn it around on you... Name a state in the General Election that Kerry would win that Edwards would NOT?

There isn't any...

120. Dean to endorse Edwards?
This could change everything.

The former Vermont governor sought out rival John Edwards for a private meeting in Milwaukee Sunday night. After what Democratic sources described as a friendly but inconclusive conversation, Dean said the two men should talk again Wednesday. The implication was that there could be ways for Dean to help a candidate he has said he prefers over Sen. John F. Kerry (Mass.).

Well, we'll lose Wisconsin it seems, but the spin could be a boost to the Edwards campaign. I guess we'll just have to see how it plays out.

AT LEAST people should be wondering why Kerry has trouble getting over 50% in contested races, and why does this Edwards guy always come out of nowhere (single digits) to score strong double-digit finishes?

John Edwards has run a great campaign. While I do not agree with his vote on IWR, I found his willingness to accept responsibility for it during the debate both honest and refreshing.

I love his stand on working to help the poor as opposed to others focus on the middle class.

John Edwards is a candidate I can look forward to supporting during the primaries and the GE.

Congratulations on a strong showing in WI.

147. Absent reliable polling
it shows how off the media is on gaging the races and how much they simply ignore their own observations on Edwards' late appeal and the movement of the undecided voters. From past experience it seems 90% dimwittedness and the rest confusion among the GOP scribes as to what to do about the Democrats in general.

Without going negative Edwards is reaching for a tremendous personal victory against long and all odds which would definitely in itself seal his credentials if chosen to be the candidate. At least he is getting his chance- as weighted against him circumstances are. It would be a different universe entirely if everything was 100% fair, but both candidates(to the dismay and disarray of the chickenhawk dynasty) will profit more, I firmly believe, from this quality test.

On a larger scale, I believe this is a proof of what a candidate should have personally and the message that should be delivered and what the party broadly should stand for. This above all is the lesson the party should take to heart in rebuilding democracy in America, not dull elite cliques of differentiated rich folk as out of touch with plain reality as they are with the "commons".
