Dean blasts GOP candidates for skipping forum

(CNN)–On the evening the Democratic presidential candidates appeared in a candidate forum on a Spanish language network, Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean blasted the GOP candidates for not doing the same.

"Every Democratic candidate, through their participation at tonight's forum," the former Vermont governor said, "made it clear that the Democratic Party is the party that welcomes Hispanics and that shares their values."

"The refusal of Republican candidates to address the Hispanic community not just at this forum but in national Hispanic gatherings in recent months, speaks volumes," Dean continued in a statement released Sunday night. "Sadly it is consistent with the Republican Party's strategy to scapegoat Hispanic immigrants for political gain."

Most of the Democratic candidates appeared Sunday night on the campus of the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, for a candidate forum on the Spanish language network Univision.

A similar forum with the GOP Presidential candidates was supposed to take place next Sunday night. But only one of the Republican candidates, Senator John McCain of Arizona, accepted the invitation. That forum has been cancelled, although Univision hopes it can reschedule with the Republican candidates.

5. I posted something on this a few weeks ago
This is huge folks. Univision Radio and TV is one of the biggest media vehicles in the US that speaks to the Hispanic-American population. Their market shares for radio and TV are huge.

For the Dems to debate on here and the repukes to simply "blow-off" the event speaks volumes. Dean needs to remind the Hispanics of this incident all the way up to the next election. Also this coming on the recently resignation of the disgraced Gonzo.

Keep this one in your back pocket when debating reupkes in the future.

6. McLame said that even if Americans were paid $50hr that they
would never pick lettuce or anything else. Yeah, he would go over real well with the Hispanic voters. How much do people get an hour to work in the fields & factories of Amerika? Do they have any benefits to go along with their hourly wage?

7. well, not only that, but...
...$50.00 an hour? I would think most people would do just about any job for that.

9. At full time, that is $104,000 per year.
I've never made close to that much money in my life, so even with a seasonal job, I'd be happy to don my sunscreen, hat & gloves & pick lettuce.

Here's what I think. When McCain threw out that $50 an hour figure, he had no idea how much money that really is since it's basically peanuts to him.

10. Pete Wilson "gave" California to the Dems on this issue, and now GOP does it nationally
The "issue" would be the acceptance of Spanish speaking people into American society. Too F Bad for them.
