MyDD: John Edwards wins Texas ePrimary in a Landslide

by okamichan13, Mon Sep 10, 2007 at 08:34:51 PM EST

John Edwards got a big boost for his campaign by winning - in very convincing fashion - the Texas Democratic Party's ePrimary, which ran from August 31st to September 7th with over 8,000 Texas voters. Good stuff:

The votes are in, and Texas Democrats have made their voices heard in the first-ever TDP ePrimary Poll. Congratulations to Senator John Edwards, who came in first with 37.65% of the vote. Senator Edwards impressed Texas Democrats with his authenticity, dedication to progressive principles, and commitment to working for all Americans.

2. Wonderful! I think Edwards is the only Dem with a shadow
of a chance to break through in the South. I'd like to know what state or states Obama or Clinton WOULD win that Kerry Lost? I could see Edwards winning states like Arkansas and Ohio, where his populist message could seriously resonate with the poor and middle classes who are losing jobs daily and opportunity for their kids. I do think Obama would make a great Vice President though...

22. That's the way campaigns work when ...
... they focus on getting the message out rather than on thirty second sound-bites. Like a slow rain instead of a cloud burst, it takes longer to soak in, but does more good over the long haul.

wishing you a vigorous welcome to DU.

I tried an evening or two ago and you'd already headed out the door. Who knows where you were going?

To a John Edwards rally?

Out with pals to see SICKO?

Enjoined on a hunt to find Jim Morrison?

Well, it must have been somewhere.

Tonight, I hope I'll catch you before you leave.

Warm welcome, and hope to read many more of your posts.

5. Happy to hear so many Texas Democrats are in the ballgame for John Edwards,
and proud that they might like some of the things about him I like also.

Despite the Bushes in the political headlines down there, I believe the state flower is the BLUEbonnet, ain't it?

10. I don't see it as Edwards winning my vote. I see it as my distinct
privilege to vote for Edwards.

What a huge difference it will be to live in John Edwards' America as opposed to George W. Bush's America.

I wear my Edwards button around town and the Edwards bumper sticker on the vehicle.

The more his detractors give assault on the man, the taller he stands.

14.  Yep....so why do I feel sorry for his detractors....?
Sometimes I come to DU and not sure if I want to cyberhammer or hug someone :silly:

I see really mean things said about all the candidates and I see a Republican getting a vote. Sigh.

16. The detractors are projecting some miserableness of their own onto
high-profile figures.

Throw in a little selfishness that their guy or gal isn't meeting with blog approval. Edwards rules over at Kos, for example. And does real well on MyDD.com and so forth.

Some of the detractors choose the most surperficial crap to criticize him, but I'd like to know how many of those making fun of the haircut have climbed Kilimanjaro. Let me see them huff and puff their sorry butts up Kilimanjaro as Edwards has and THEN I'll talk to them about haircuts. Until then, those folks are jerks, minus the integrity.

Other detractors are painting themselves into a corner. In their assault on Clinton or Obama or Edwards, they rule out wide-circle problem-solving once one of them -- or Joe Biden -- or Bill Richardson -- or Hart or Gore ETC -- is the nominee. Cuz it's gonna be one of those people. There's a dozen or so Democrats running or in mention. One is going to be our nominee, and that one is going to set the legislative agenda for the next 4 to 8 years and beyond, that one is going to appoint Supreme Court justices, that one is going to renegotiate global treaties, and that one is who we'll tune in to hear for the annual State of the Union address.

There's no good can come from the my-candidate-only strategy. That paint never dries and there they are stranded in the corner.

Edwards' campaign team is one of the absolute best I've seen. I think the numbers come up this fall and by January, it's going to be a full head of steam.

8. Quite different from the polling of that state, which shows Clinton ahead comfortably
http://www.burntorangereport.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=4036
It had Clinton on top with 36.9%, followed by Obama with 17.6%. Then Edwards with 14.6% and Richardson with 8.9%.
Clinton also has stronger support, with 72% of her voters definitely voting for her, compared to 59% for Obama and just 38% and 35% for Edwards and Richardson, respectively.

These are activists. Your link was ...???....

...the latest installment of the Texas Primary Tracking Polls conducted by IVR Polls commissioned on behalf of Burnt Orange Report. IVR Polls correctly predicted the TX-10 race within a margin of 1 point in 2006.

13. Yes, that's why the poll I referenced is a much better than this "eprimary"
It polled people who actually voted in the previous Texas Democratic primary. The Eprimary included anyone who went to that site and said they were from Texas.

19. Just an aside on the Burnt Orange folks... they're a very, very sharp bunch.
As astute a bunch of progressive Dems as you could hope to find.

Refreshing crew down there in Austin and surrounds.

23. That's why straw polls are useful ...
... early sample survey polling are notoriously unreliable, in part because they have a very hard time in measuring depth of attachment ... especially when the telephone interviewers are under pressure to "push" for a positive response, since its big headline numbers that the news media wants to see.

A straw poll reflects ability to mobilize support, and its not surprising that an online straw poll more closely reflects the relative strengths of the online campaigns, with Hillary a distinct third place behind the two front runners, Edwards and Obama.
