The need for a conciliatory message after the primary is over. (Pledge)
Edited on Mon Sep-10-07 10:26 PM by Katzenkavalier
The primary dates are starting to get close, poll numbers reflect very close races in Iowa and South Carolina, and so far Hillary is the solid frontrunner, while Obama and Edwards haven't faded or gone down yet (especially Obama and his huge amount of $$$). All of that combined is making this Dem primary a very intense and memorable one, and here in DU the effects are starting to be felt. The attacks are becoming nastier and more frequent, and we can expect things to get much worse in the last weeks of December and the first weeks of January 08. It's part of the game and we all need to brace ourselves and, if necessary, fight back.

Now, whoever winds up being the winner of the primaries will be, like it or not, OUR CANDIDATE. That's the bottom line. I'll be honest, I think Hillary is a good person and an intelligent, capable politician, but I don't like her enough to vote for her in the primaries or to actually campaign actively during 08 if she wins the nomination. But rest assured that she's much better than the loons at the other side combined, and she has my vote in 08. Obama inspires me, I believe in him, and I'm rooting for him to win the primaries AND the GE, and rest assured I will campaign for that man under the hottest sun or the fiercest rain because I think he is the leader we have been waiting for. I also like John Edwards very much and would gladly campaign for him in the GE.

But, if Obama wins the Dem primary, I PROMISE I WON'T GLOAT OR RUB HIS VICTORY IN THE FACE OF THOSE WHO LOST. I will celebrate his victory, but if anything, I will invite those who were in other camps to join the Obama camp in a conciliatory and brotherly way, because the passion others feel for their candidates and their hopes are nothing to make fun of. Because I don't want to alienate those who might wind up being staunch supporters and campaign workers in the long run. Because I want, as a Democrat, to see an united Democratic Underground ready to support the winning Dem candidate and help take him/her to the WH.

I personally expect no less from my fellow DUers from other camps and my camp, and I ask you to repress your feelings of vengeance (I know what you feel when you see your candidate ridiculed by someone every single day) and turn them into constructive, unifying actions. So, I would like to see how many GDP posters are willing to "sign" this NO-GLOATING pledge. It would be nice if the mods decided to post this as a sticky, so that more people can sign in as the primary dates get closer, and that those who signed don't forget they did after the primary is over.

Even if nobody else is willing or interested, I've made my promise.

-Roberto (Katzenkavalier)

1. If Obama wins I will be so happy for the country.
If edwards wins I will support him 100% I will support all except for Hillary.
If Hillary wins, I will go into a depressive funk for months, quit the democratic party and not vote in the election.
A republican vs a republican.

3. Then I hope she wins
because I'm gonna love seeing people who post nonsense like that get kicked off this board.

No worries, IP and myself will thoughtfully sign-off if HRC wins the nomination. Not even running with someone as laudable as Obama will sway me.

BTW nice authoritarian statement. Should we realize a police state, many "law and order" types here will fit in just fine.

2. I'll happily sign it. Any one of the Democratic candidates is better
than even the best 'puke (if "best Republican" isn't an oxymoron). Let's face it: Bill Clinton wasn't perfect, but his administration in retrospect was a Golden Age of peace and prosperity. However, you may have a tough time convincing some others. Democrats give up too easily, unfortunately. They (we) tend to sulk and pout, take our marbles and go home. Repukes take the long, long view, and stick together until the bitter end and the ruination of the country.

I have voted for every democratic presidential candidate since Carter...

10. I'm on board.
Mostly I just want to kick the ever lovin' crap out of the Republicans AND insure a Democratic president appoints the next Supreme Court justice(s).
