Right wing lie about MoveOn becomes the story
One of the best examples of how they lie and create mischief.

How Right-Wing Lie About MoveOn Ad Became The Story

Jeffrey Feldman, 09.11.2007

The Weekly Standard published an article accusing the MoveOn.org ad of calling Petreaus a 'traitor.' The only problem: the word 'traitor' appears nowhere in the MoveOn.org ad nor anywhere on the MoveOn.org page about the ad.

1. OF course
if it wasn't a move-on ad, it would something else, anything else to distract from the real issues and questions - divide and divert

2. MoveOn blew it...
Doesn't matter how unfair the media or right wing is, their tactics are well known...anyone with half a brain knows an ad like this would become the story...it was a stupid move...

3. I agree
One reason I stopped donating. But this article breaks down the process so some naive DUers might get a better idea of what the wrong wing does.

:hi:

P.S. And my son once asked me in 2003 if General Clark needed a cage. When I asked why in the world Clark would need a new cage, he responded, "Well, I heard on the news he was trying to win a new hampster."

He was 4 at the time. :)

4. And maybe that's the point
it is the story, people are reading it and talking about it who never would have paid attention at all. This is a good thing.

6. They are not talking about what Patreus said...
But what was said about him...it's a loser and takes the focus off Iraq...

7. nah
By focusing on Patreus it shows how the lies are used which is what Iraq is. One huge lie that most people can't really see unless we expose the lies.

9. Personally attacking a man who has served honorably...
His entire career is not something I want to be associated with...and I think it will backfire...

Read "Fiasco" the definitive book on the misadventure in Iraq, and see what the author says about Patreus. He did not deserve to be attacked in that way...

14. One who lies to the American
people and the world about something this serious is not an honorable person any more. I thought Colin Powell was at the least an honorable man, no matter what party he chose, that changed when he lied to get us into this war.

10. First paragraph of the ad
"General Petraeus is a military man constantly at war with the facts. In 2004, just before the election, he said there was "tangible progress" in Iraq and that "Iraqi leaders are stepping forward." And last week Petraeus, the architect of the escalation of troops in Iraq, said, "We say we have acheieved progress, and we are obviously going to everything we can to build on that progress."

It goes on, the rest is here: http://pol.moveon.org/petraeus.html

8. A Right Winger on another board posted about the ad today and.....
Edited on Tue Sep-11-07 11:21 AM by Bennyboy
Was all over it about how the ad was calling Petraeus a traitor etc. He is a hard core who always take the hard line and supports Bush.

After about 100 posts about how the facts are fixed (with sources) and that Petraeus lied and how, he is now saying.."I do feel betrayed'. So there is something to this tactic.

11. Traitors betray - it's the definition
If you dish it out, you better be prepared to take it. All they've done is make the smears the topic, instead of the failure of the escalation.

You guys are the ones who say you know how to beat the smears back.

Get to it.

13. OK, fuck it, *I'M* calling the guy a traitor.
To purposefully mislead the American people (and don't think for a minute this is anything other than PR bullshit) for the purpose of prolonging an illegal war is traitorous, and treason of the highest order.

People are DYING because of the lies this jackass spews.

Screw him and his "service". Whoever he may be serving, it isn't the American people.

16. The evidence is there, in black and white, and will be on microfilm ...
but, since the masses don't read papers much, and rely on the Faux-initiated media circle-jerk ... they won't bother to actually look at evidence - the actual ad ...

17. Two weeks ago
O'liely wouldn't shut up about Daily Ko's. It was a 'hate' site. I'll bet a lot of people checked. America deserves to know how a lot of us are feeling about the war! Many will finally feel they are not alone in their despair and disgust. I bet a lot of people are looking at MoveOn. today. I found DU because some wrong-wing hack was bitching about it. I got my first computer and hooked up to the internet soon after. I nearly went mad going through the 1004 elections by myself. I don't think calling it the Betray-us report is far off. We knew going in he would praise the results of the surge and advocate staying in country as long as the sponsor corporations are rolling in the bucks. It's a money maker and about the oil, it's not about the people of Iraq. Certainly NOT about Democracy. On the other hand General Patreaus is a far cry better than Rumsfeldt. Has he gone to the Hague yet?

18. The lie about one of our heroes John Kerry didn't get this much
attention from the republicans as being a fabricated ad...oh I know...it was bashing a democrat...that's why it was OK'd by the republicans. Seems like every time the democrats come up with an ad that tells the truth about the republicans they start a shit fit. Guess when it hits a nerve they just start screaming. How about them trying to censure Dan Rather because he told the TRUTH about bush and his running and hiding during the Viet Nam War. Gee what a bunch of assholes.

...at least according to a poll discussed on MSNBC last night. I think the ad was brilliant in that it only reinforced what people were already thinking ~ clever tactic.
