Bush will consider ending surge by next summer!
What has our party come to?

---
Officials: Bush to announce troop cut

WASHINGTON - President Bush will tell the nation this week he plans to reduce the American troop presence in Iraq by about 30,000 by next summer, but will condition those and further cuts on continued progress, The Associated Press has learned...

The reductions envisioned by the White House mirror those proposed by Petraeus and would leave approximately 130,000 U.S. troops on the ground by August, roughly the level at which they were before Bush ordered the buildup early this year, the officials said...

The address will stake out a conciliatory tone toward Congress but Bush will place more conditions on the pace of reductions to the pre-buildup level of 130,000 than Petraeus did...

My take: This guy is dancing in our fucking end zone! How did we get from sweeping into the majority to having this dickhead actually add more troops to the war instead of less, to now having him 'consider' taking us back down to where we were when the public so strongly rebuked him last year???

Fuck 2008. We need to figure out how the hell we fucked ourselves so bad in 2006!!!

1. The 30/60-day surge?
How nice that we're good with this.

What horseshit. Two days of "testimony" just so President Pinhead can come on the TeeVee and make his big pronouncement that the surge will soon be over-next summer, for crissakes. Great PR job by "Chinless" Ed Gillespie and his other co-horts in the Petraeus War Room, set up solely to roll out the annual September Bullshit Show.

Stay tuned for the premiere of the most anticipated new show of the fall season-"Hey Kids, What Time Is It? It's 'Attack Iran' Time!!!" All new! (With the exception of the film not used to push the Iraq war-hours and hours of never-before-seen footage and a special surprise ending!) Must-see TeeVee! Coming in October! Or November! Whenever.

2. Attack our leaders, create distractions
this is what happens. We better ramp up the pressure on Republicans before its too late.

4. How? Because Bush lied to us. Again.
I'm pretty sure this is the last straw.. As disappointing as Pelosi has been in the recent past, she was majorly pissed off today. One way or another, this WILL NOT stand.

Kind of off topic, but is anyone else getting worried about the protests on the 15th? I've been worried ever since the arrests last week.

9. I'll take that bet.

I think she won't do a thing. The best chance she had was in the spring. Bush will never be in such a weak position again, and Pelosi hasn't done a thing to strengthen her position over the past few months.

5. Petraeus was confirmed 81-0 when his surge
plan was introduced. Now he recommends a reduction and we will pass the funding bill again.

What was the strategy for withdrawal again?

Is there a strategy?

8. Because you, I and the other people on here care ...
But most of the politicians (Rep & Dem alike) don't really give a crap about the war in Iraq or the people over there. Reps feign hyper-patriotism and pretend that our national security depends on "winning" the war in Iraq. Dems feign opposition and outrage as a way of harnessing the anti-war energy for their political advantage.

The proof is in the pudding, and the pudding smells suspiciously like bull shit.

We will all burst a blood vessel screaming about this. All they care about is how it will affect their power.

10. And they'll hold off announcing its start until the republi-CON convention.
Come on - you think they're gonna do ANYTHING that doesn't play to their political advantage?

11. The military is overextended, he doesn't have a choice
And reducing the number of troops there by 30,000 will only send the total number back to the overall average of the entire war. Yet the corporate media plays this up as if it is some kind of "withdrawal" lol.

12. n/s
I'm beyond pissed off over this. I want all of them out of there now! And I agree with the poster who pointed out it will drop down 130K right around the time of the Repugnants convention.

We should be protesting Bush - we should be protesting the House and Senate for not getting off their asses and doing what they were voted into office to do.

13. The 15-month combat tour would be up by next summer, so the surge would be over anyway!
Bush and Petraeus are promising something that is going to happen no matter what they do. Why are we falling for these two liars?

He has some smart people working for him. If he wanted to, he can find a way to keep it going longer.
