40. I think that's one of the many positives about DU - how much information |
|
is available here to flesh out the skeletons of the stories we see. SO much more, so far beyond what the MSM covers or even brushes past. It sure has given me a lot more material to work with. I still think this is not just a website. It's really more like a think tank.

I'm just hoping the Great Awakening continues. If Chris Matthews and Olbermann both pounded on that Q&A between John Warner and Petraeus, and ABC leads with it on their evening newscast, maybe the word IS starting to get out. Furthermore, I noticed very little attempt to bring an enemy partisan to try to spin it away. I saw several programs with back-to-back anti-war Dems and/or liberals, and hosts starting to display a little outrage. And on Olbermann's show, I see a consistent expression of dismay and disgust on Jonathan Alter's face every time he guests, and that pathetic Richard Wolffe - no smirks or toadying from him in awhile, either. Nor did he make any attempt to accentuate the positive in his closing remarks - used to be that he'd end every segment with Keith with a comment or answer that wrapped with "...but it's evident that the public (republi-CONS, White House staffers, the media) understand that overall, he's doing the best he can" or some such DRECK. Both Alter and Wolffe looked as sober as undertakers. It's almost as though they've awakened, fully, and concluded that this isn't a game anymore. They seem to have realized that this isn't funny anymore. Perhaps they're starting to get it. And if they are, others are, too.

30. I totally agree. The Great Awakening continues. Even Tweety became un-Tweetitified |
|
and was completely outraged by Petraeus's exchange with John Warner - so much so that he showed it twice, in the space of a few minutes. It's taking forever, but the dawning is here.
If patience is indeed a virtue, and if Heaven does indeed exist, then I'm sure there'll be a huge room with sagging, well worn sofas and a sign above the doorway that says "DUers, welcome."

GREAT one!
I hope that continues. I think it'd be good for him. And considering the trend in the ratings at MSNBC and a certain exploding powerhouse show just after his, it'd probably be good for his ratings, also.

"It could have been our finest hour. Instead, it's become our grossest disgrace. George Bush and friends have done more to dishonor the dead from September 11th AND Iraq through their lies, distortions, deliberate missteps, recklessness, arrogance, and greed."
I still believe it was our finest hour as citizens, whose first thought was of others.
However, Georgie has never been one of us.
Perhaps we should forget impeachment and go directly to revoking his citizenship. After all, no one can point to a single instance where he actually acted like a citizen -- well, not of THIS country, anyway.
Congratulations on a brilliantly-written piece!

And of course your point is very well taken, as usual. He is NOT one of us. He never was one of us. He never will be one of us. There's just a very fundamental, deep-in-the-bone-marrow difference between his kind of mindset and ours. All he thinks about is IGMFU - "I Got Mine, F-U."
It occurred to me awhile ago that people of his mindset - the republi-CONS, the neoCONS, CONservatives in general, are those whose world view sees people as essentially and intrinsically bad. Hence, the whole theory of the stern father, the tough-love stuff, etc. Seems to me you look at the world through that kind of lens if that kind of lens is part of YOUR nature. Perhaps they view the rest of the world as essentially bad, it's because that's how THEY are. That's where they live. That's what they resonate to. They can identify the bad in the rest of humanity (and that's what they react to and respond to) because that's what's in them already. No wonder they see it everywhere else. They're already predisposed. It's in their DNA. It's what they're hard-wired to relate to. You see the world as being basically bad, george, because that's what's already in you. That's what you are, and that's what you're preprogrammed to see.
Thanks for the kick, Nance! Greatly appreciated! And back atcha!

Sometimes I nearly despair over what kind of mess we're leaving for them. And it's cold comfort to tell them that we fought against it with everything we had. We still failed. We were still overrun and overwhelmed. And despite all our efforts and good intentions, our (and THEIR) country is still on the road to Hell. It's a heavy burden to bear when you're a parent.
