Poll question: Is Romney done now that Thompson is in the race and pratically leading in the GOP polls?
I think his chances are pretty much over now that Thompson and Giuliani are fighting hard for the top spot. He's little by little being left out of the battle, as it could be seen in the last Fox News debate.

So, do you agree? Is Romney done?

1. I sincerely hope not.
Romney would be one of the easier pubs to beat. And isn't Romney still leading in Iowa and New Hampshire?

2. Way too soon to tell. I don't think the Freddie phenomenon is going to
last too long. Too many stupid things keep coming out, like he goes to church when he's home, but not when he 's on the road; got his GF prenant while he was still in HS, married her, then divorced her after many years and married a young chick; he lobbied for abortion rights......

Freddie's the new kid on the block right now and he's attracting all the attention, but I predict the bloom will be off the rose in fairly short order.

4. Never underestimate Mittens. He's wanted to be President for a lot
longer than Fred and Rudy, he's ruthless and unprincipled, and he's got the cash, the family, and the Hair to go the distance. He's also got the most clear and detailed policies of the major R candidates thus far, that I've seen. Romney works hard. Good thing nobody likes him--that's his big hurdle, even more than the Mormonism.

6. Not sure if he can keep from fucking up on the trial
His "My sons are serving the country by getting me elected" line was about as warmly received as pineapple anal plug.

7. Yes--he is gaffe-prone, and again, people just don't like him. Otherwise, I would
have no doubt of his being the nominee, if only because he looks the part. But he's got enough advantages to stay a contender for a while.

9. He's got the dollars, the desire and as you said looks the part.
He'll certainly stick around but its one of those thank god for our choice of enemies things.

Put Huckabee in Mitt's financial situation and we would be looking at a tough contest.

8. No. He's focused, smart, and he generally runs a tight ship.

He's still got plenty left in his tank. We should prepare for a race against him just as much as we would Ghoul or Thompson.

10. Agree With Many Here
Romney increasingly looks like a winner--Thompson is just the last attempt by the Bushies to stay in power. Notice the big rollout over at the National Review.

However all this might be wishful thinking on my part as I'm beginning to feel I'd rather Romney was the nominee than Guliani, McCain, or Thompson. He's both potentially less electable and seemingly more sane than the other 3. In any case, anyone who was re-elected as governor of MA can't be the worst of all options.

11. I tend to agree with that assessment as well.
He's far worse than anyone the Democrats could throw out there, but he wouldn't be as awful as Thompson or McCain.
