Take a moment and donate to Code Pink if you can
Looking at the swipes at Code Pink here by people who apparently don't understand that dissent is truly American , especially in these times, take some time and donate what you can to Code Pink. While I personally don't like everything they do all the time, they deserve some kudos for standing up to Patraeus and the gang recently.

1. Yes great idea
Let's never forget the sacrifices these women make every single day to end this damn war.

They're not helping

3. Should the Victoria Secret models be the new Code Pink?
I like Stewart, but he's wrong on this if he thinks they aren't "helping".

They are getting arrested for doing their patriotic duty to try to stop the Occupation. That's as serious as a heart attack. And it ain't easy.

4. I guess you didn't hear the audience either
Sorry, but in this case, it's not what committed people think ... I'll refrain from the inevitable pun. You have to measure Code Pink and other activists by the reaction they generate. Getting attention is important, but I remember how long it took us to get out of Vietnam - we can do better.

It's not a question of dignity; when the Supremes were debating Bush v Gore I spent every Saturday beside the UN shouting my fool head off with Voter March. I know we helped shape mainstream media's opinion of the debacle with our permitted demonstrations.

11. And we are way ahead of where we were during the Vietnam War
I heard Tom Hayden spek this summer. He has written a book on the Iraq War. And he said we in the anti-war community need to quit beating each other up because we are lightyears ahead of where the anti-war activists were at this point during the Vietnam war. And we are far more organized.

than anyone on an internet board.

Not all "dissent" is effective. Some is just stupid.

10. So when is dissent "productive"?
I'm assuming "never" in your view. When do we wait for instructions? What do we wear? What chants do we say? Where do we make a statement?

Should MLK just have shut his piehole? He was "embarrassing" to some. That's not to say Code Pink is like MLK, but to wait for the Cavalry to arrive is like what Custer did. And we know what happened to Custer.

Could have fooled me.

I am going to need a manual soon. So many rules, can't possibly remember them all. :)

9. What really got me was Code Pink's own account of the proceedings
Every cop was an asshole in their eyes, even before they did anything. Just being there doing their jobs made them assholes, or just being a cop period made them assholes. There was such a self-righteousness to the account. I was not impressed after reading that.

I thought what happened to the Reverend was a more apt protest, even if he didn't mean it to be in quite that way. Just standing in line when all of a sudden you're singled out for no reason.

13. You didn't watch the videos did you?
I also guess you didn't see the video I posted yesterday. A Code Pinker was walking down the street in DC. Yes, just walking down the street. And she was arrested and had to spend a night in jail. Next morning, in court, the judge threw the case out and sent her home. No apology, no nothing.

So if you think it is okay for American citizens in our nation's capitol to be arrested for walking down the street, then we don't have much to talk about. However, if you understand the outrage, then maybe you understand why the Code Pinkers perceive the cops as assholes.

My friend Tina was assualted last Thurs by DC cops on horses, shackled and left unattended all night in a DC jail. She was taken to the hospital as soon as she was released from jail. She had a serious injury.

Rev Yearwood has a broken leg.

Now who other than assholes assaults American citizens who are guilty of nothing other than wanting to participate in our democracy?

21. A fake political show's spin "for humor" is what you base such pride on?
Edited on Thu Sep-13-07 02:20 PM by ShortnFiery
They even find inane things to spin democrats' behavior. It's not reality, it's satire.

Yes, if Code Pink is even bringing out this much hate from "The Centrists" in our party, then they must be doing something right, i.e., comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable.

Code Pink can count on $20 from me today. :hi:
