Vermont Legal Victory over Auto Pollution
A Vermont court has rejected the auto industry's argument (supported by the EPA) that U.S. states did not have the right to set their own auto pollution emission standards. In his ruling, Judge William K. Sessions III said that the auto industry failed to prove that it could not safely meet the tailpipe standards... This case pits several states against one another (Mass vs. Texas, Mich vs. Rhode Island, etc...) and paves the way for a precedent-setting California case that will challenge the EPA/Bush Administration later this fall.

1. This isn't just a vermont victory
in fact, that's the smallest part of it. It's a victory for CA,RI and other states as well. And its a very big deal. In addition, most legal scholars predict, that in the light of this decision, CA's case will be dismissed.

Score a big one for states' rights to reduce auto emissions.
