<Sep. 13: Iowa House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy today became the eighth Iowa state legislator to officially endorse Sen. Joe Biden for President. At a 10:00 a.m. (Central Time) press conference delivered on the steps of the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines, McCarthy was joined by Senator Biden and fellow Biden endorsers Rep. Doris Kelley (D-Waterloo) and Ass’t Majority Leader John Whitaker (D-Hillsboro).
In offering praise for Sen. Biden’s candidacy, Rep. McCarthy commented, “Joe Biden’s plan for Iraq - coupled with his unmatched foreign policy experience — make him the best choice to lead America out of the crisis in Iraq,” he said. “Iraq is the single most important issue facing America today, and Joe Biden has the most credible plan to get us out without causing further chaos.”
Biden For President National Political Director Danny O’Brien remarked, “Representative McCarthy’s proven leadership and recent success in winning back control of the Iowa House brings a powerful dimension to our campaign.”
Elected in 2003, McCarthy represents Iowa District 67; in addition to his post as Majority Leader, he serves as a member of the Administration and Rules Committee. McCarthy was re-elected in 2006 with 5,656 votes, defeating Republican opponent Steve Inman and Independent opponent Brian McClain.>
