So...suppose things actually start getting better in Iraq in the months ahead. |
|
I realize this is nearly as unlikely as hell freezing over, but what if somehow things start to stabilize. I wonder what the implications of that would be for the election.
Probably a waste of time speculating, because such a scenario will never happen...

3. Who cares about the election? Iraq is not a political boon or a political weapon-- |
|
it's an occupation that we need to start disentangling ourselves from, no matter what happens over there. And the less casualties, Iraqi and American, the better.

6. If that happened, I would be very happy. Also, if our republic and freedoms were |
|
to be restored, I would be very happy. Like anybody, I could make a big long list of things that would make me happy, regardless of what person or party made them happen.
Sad to say, those things are almost certainly to happen under the administration of the current President or any of his would-be successors on the Republican side (save the constitutionalist/libertarian Ron Paul, who would get a couple of the things accomplished, if he didn't face an obstructionist Republican congress.

7. One should expect things to get better; people there want better life situations |
|
Things there have been really bad, and people will increasingly support leaders and policies that stabilize living situations there and support economic growth. Radicals and trouble makers should get decreasing support. Of course the Sunni/Shia divisions have gotten stronger and there are those acting to keep this the case. But the majority are likely to realize what they need to do and move to support more stability.
