Helen Miller endorses Barack Obama

State Rep. Helen Miller, D-Fort Dodge, has endorsed U.S. Sen. Barack Obama for president.

‘‘I’m going public today and announcing my support for Barack Obama,’’ she said Thursday morning. ‘‘Basically, I feel we need a president that can bring our country together. Obama is the person who can do that.’’

She said the Illinois Democrat has shown courage and judgment in opposing the Iraq war.

‘‘He will work with Congress and bring the war to an end and restore America’s moral leadership of the world,’’ Miller said.

She announced her endorsement in a short telephone conference call that Obama, who was in Iowa, joined.

‘‘Folks like Rep. Miller bring enormous credibility,’’ Obama said. ‘‘Having someone to validate you and speak about their confidence in you helps enormously.’’

He said he was ‘‘gratified’’ to have her endorsement.
