The Magic Touch...Magic Johnson holding fundraiser for Hillary...

Magic Johnson To Host Fundraiser For Clinton

(CBS) LOS ANGELES Magic Johnson is expected to join Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton at a discussion in Watts on Friday, then host a fund-raiser for Clinton's campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination at his home near Beverly Hills.

Clinton, D-N.Y., is scheduled to speak about education, job creation, economic development, health care and public safety with about 300 area residents, community leaders, ministers, students, teachers and parents, according to Luis Vizcaino, her campaign's California communications director.

Though Johnson contributed gave $2,300 Senator Barack Obama, D-Ill.'s campaign, the former basketball player turned entrepreneur said he is endorsing Clinton because of her "unique understanding of the domestic and international issues" and because she "has the experience and knowledge to help lead our country and get us to a better place."

"We need a winner as our next president of the United States -- someone that can help realistically improve relations in the world, someone that will work to provide affordable and accessible health care and someone that is simply a strong leader," Johnson said last month when the fund-raiser was announced. "I know that's Hillary Clinton."

Record producer Quincy Jones, Motown founder Berry Gordy and music industry executive Clarence Avant will also help host the fundraiser. About 300 people are expected to attend. Ticket prices start at $500, Vizcaino said.

Vizcaino said Johnson's endorsement would have an impact beyond Southern California and reach the entire nation.

"We see this as a vote of confidence," Vizcaino said.

Ever since that Oprah story broke big...now Clinton is trying to find a Black person that everyone looks up to to campaign for her...lol.

4. I know that. I am just saying he is probably endorsing her because
Bill asked him to. I do not support Hillary. I do know Bill is making phone calls to people who worked with him during his administration to try to get support for her.

8. The behind the scenes talk here in LA
is Magic Johnson endorsed because of his ties to Villaraigosa and a need to gather civic approvals to increase his business ventures in LA. The laughter is that young black Hollywood is endorsing and embracing Obama and the geriatric set will be at Magic & Cookie's. There is a definitive split but many black professionals, me included, have swung support to Obama. That's not to say Hillary is bereft of a great amount of supporters, they are here, just not nearly as vocal as the Obama support.

Anytime Clinton gets an endorsement, it's always for reasons OTHER than the endorser really supports Clinton.

Bill was the one who called the congressmen in Atlanta for Hillary several times. You want it to stop being about Bill. Call Bill and ask Bill to stop making the phone calls.

Edited on Fri Sep-14-07 10:11 AM by William769
Johnson endorsed Clinton awhile ago. He's just now doing fund raising for Hillary.

So if you want to talk about following, Obama had to follow Clinton to get a high powered endorsement from the book reader!

Care to know who other high powered wealthy African Americans are endorsing Hillary?

30. Oprah started her support for Obama before Magic. You are the fool for laughing
She announced a year in advance if he ran she would support him. Get your facts straight. Oprah announced her party. Afterwards Magic announced a party. Obama announced Dinner with him. Hillary announced dinner with her this month. Get your facts straight.

she touts herself as the "Champion for Women". I still cringe when I hear his name. I just find it an odd endorsement given his past history with women.

Why not tell the whole story instead of just trying to grab a headline for your own perverted reasons.

24. Yeah I know his history well.
Any link you provide will never tell the "whole story". I could provide links to many more unfavorable views, but I'm not out to "grab a headline". My question was legitimate, although I'm sure it's not an issue to most of his fans.

33. You do ask a legitimate question
If anyone doubts it they can just buy his book(no need for links). He was very promiscuous, this has never been disputed. That was the reason he postponed his original wedding date(he wasn't through sowing his oats).

His past does make some question any contradiction this may have with Hillary's platform.

I don't question it because I think he's changed but I think it's a legitimate question.

41. That is so untrue, you guys are in denial
There was a post about a rapper endorsing Obama and there were many who criticized the rapper. There were some who wondered if this rappers endorsement would jeopardize any feminist support that Obama may have. It was a legitimate question just as this is a legitimate question. It so happens that the rapper in question has changed his ways just like Magic Johnson has. Unfortunately because of our past we may not be able to escape some questions. The best thing to do would be to address the issue and move on.

Pretty pathetic and a good indication that they have no ammo left...just lashing out at anything they can...
