NY Daily News exposes bogus NY Post story about NY Times/Moveon
Edited on Fri Sep-14-07 09:49 AM by antiimperialist
There is a good piece in the NY Daily News today detailing how NY Times did not, contrary to the NY Post and Rudolph Giuliani, give a discount to Moveon for their ad previous to the Petraeus report last week.

The 'News calls the NY Post story "bogus".

All Giuliani needed was one bogus newspaper story and $64,575 in campaign cash, both of which the Republican presidential hopeful used yesterday to spawn a bonanza of free publicity in the conservative blogosphere.

The story goes on,

"What we should move on with ... is a civil discourse without name-calling," Giuliani said in Atlanta - after demanding that his campaign be given the same "discounted rate" to run a pro-Petraeus ad today.

But Giuliani's facts were challenged. Any advocacy group seeking to place a single, full-page, black-and-white ad in The Times on "standby" over a seven-day period - the paper picks the day - pays what MoveOn.org did, $64,575, sources said.

Giuliani is a liar who would say anything to get elected, even if it takes ignoring facts:

2. Competition occasionally leads to truth prevailing - like in this case
It's the reason for the rule against one owning more than one outlet in a local market. The public gets a chance for a second opinion.Murdoch bought his way out of it. The Daily News is fighting for its life. In the process it gave us several great headlines and good reporting such as this one.
media wars are way healthier than one man propaganda monopoly.

3. A-MEN!
We need broader media ownership if democracy is to have ANY chance of survival.

Grandpa was a newspaper man <--- said you could tell a lot about a town by one copy of their paper
And Great-Gramps <---- went out west to start papers in territories opened to homesteaders
And Great-great Gramps <---- gave 'em hell back east

4. Thanks, Rudy!
You've shown your disapproval of political dirty tricks by pulling one. And you've made what I posted about this yesterday look like sheer genius!

5. Chuck Todd on MSNBC smacked the GOP this a.m. saying
they used the moveon ad as the "perfect strawman" , since they didn't want to talk about the Petraeus briefing. Giuliani just carried that water further and used it to attack Hillary more.
