And it wasn't just the departure of Karl Rove leaving the White House staff that has made their dishonesty noticeably less professional.
Take Fred Thompson for instance, Please!:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/bloomberg/20070911/pl_bloomberg/a23dx3a8oufeRepublican presidential contender Fred Thompson, who has based his campaign on appealing to conservative voters, said he isn't a regular churchgoer and doesn't plan to speak about his religion on the stump.
Thompson, in his first campaign stop in South Carolina, told a crowd of about 500 Republicans yesterday that he gained his values from ``sitting around the kitchen table'' with his parents and ``the good Church of Christ.''
Talking to reporters later, Thompson, a former Tennessee senator, said his church attendance ``varies.''
``I attend church when I'm in Tennessee. I'm in McLean right now,'' he said referring to the Virginia suburb of Washington, D.C., where he lives. ``I don't attend regularly when I'm up there.''
Thompson said he usually attends church when visiting his mother in Tennessee and isn't a member of any church in the Washington area.
Now I simply recognize Fred Thompson as an unprofessional liar and stooge.
In order for any GOP member to get a solid lock on the electorate he must appease the fundamentalist Christian Right. These are the water carriers and "get out the vote" type necessary to win major presidential elections for the republicans.
After a republican is elected he will largely disregard this gullible segment. They're only pawns anyway. Total lambs led to slaughter to be later discarded in favor of his real masters in the multi national corporations. However prior to the election he absolutely must win these sheep over. Even if it's only a subtle gesture or two.
Must be a real pain in the ass for the corporate string pullers to have to deal with the rightist Christian lunatics...
Anyway what any decent, liar of a speech writer SHOULD have told Thompson to do was to say that he "recently had a conversion experience and is devoting his life to God and the GOP".
It would have sold!
Granted the left would have painted this matter as the lie that it truly is, but Thompson won't get their votes anyway. So he should have immediately seen his local preacher, done a confession, mea culpa and had one of his benefactors in big business buy the local church a new building, retreat, pool, spa anything.
That's just how it works for the GOP.
In fact i oughta keep my mouth shut as it's still not too late for Thompson to do such a shameless thing.
What would stop him, a conscience? He's a republican. Doesn't have one!
