Stabenow of Michigan endorses Hillary Clinton.
http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070915/UPDATE/709150412/1003/METRO

"U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow on Saturday endorsed Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination, saying the New York senator and former first lady "will make sure the people of Michigan are on her radar screen."

"I'm endorsing somebody who will understand Michigan and has been my ally in fight after fight for the people of Michigan," said Stabenow, D-Lansing.

"I'm hopeful that the state party in Michigan and the (Democratic National Committee) will work out an agreement that enables Michigan to be compliant with the calendar and play an important role in choosing our nominee," said Clinton, who will attend a fundraiser in the Detroit area on Sunday.

Clinton and other Democratic candidates have signed a pledge not to campaign in states that violate the party's nominating schedule rules. Michigan's Jan. 15 primary, along with Florida's decision to vote on Jan. 29, break those rules, and approved early states have pressured candidates not to campaign in Michigan or Florida. The ban has not formally taken effect yet since Michigan has not formally been found in violation by the party's rules committee, but the ban seems all but certain to take effect later this fall.

Stabenow and other Democrats from Florida and Michigan signed a letter this week to Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean attacking the decision to penalize Michigan and Florida. But on Saturday she said that issue was separate from her decision to endorse Clinton.

"My feeling is we have an intra-party dispute right now about which states will be early states as relates to the primary season," Stabenow said. "I'm very committed to having a large, diverse manufacturing state like Michigan be one of early states. But that's not what today is about for me. Today is about the best candidate for Michigan."

Right, no connection at all. What a strange couple of weeks with no connections to anything.

2008 presidential candidate HRC gets a boost in Michigan

September 15, 2007

BY CHRIS CHRISTOFF

U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow today will endorse U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton for president in 2008, according to people close to the Clinton campaign and Stabenow.

Stabenow, elected to a second term in 2006, becomes the highest-ranking Democratic official in Michigan to endorse Clinton. Clinton's Michigan campaign is cochaired by former Democratic Gov. James Blanchard.

Neither Gov. Jennifer Granholm nor U.S. Sen. Carl Levin of Michigan has endorsed a Democratic presidential candidate.

The Clinton campaign issued a news release Friday indicating only that the campaign would announce this afternoon an important congressional endorsement.

U.S. Rep. Bart Stupak of Menominee, who has endorsed former U.S. Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina, is the only other Democratic member of Congress from Michigan to commit to a presidential candidate.

9. The Clinton's are calling in their chits, and this is a very shrewed move. Tactically, they are
very, very, smart and definitely know how to win. They are stacking the deck with name brand politicos early, with the goal of deflating the other's who still are in the running.

First Clark, now Stabenow.

The tactics are smart and produce wins......if Hillary could convert tactical wins into winning policy, then there might be hope.

10. Stabenow's DLC, no surprise here
And seeing as she has about 1/18th of the clout Levin's got in the state, well take it for what it's worth.

If you want to know which way Michigan will go, take a look at labor. With Stupak backing Edwards (and Bonior on that campaign) labor doesn't look to be leaning Clinton's way.
