So I'd like to apologize for our candidate having crossover appeal. God forbid we might want to have a candidate who has crossover appeal.

1. How often does a candidate get 10% crossover in the GE?
I'd like to see stats on that.

12. Those people are dissatisfied republicans
People don't go to polls for primary elections unless they care about the vote. This is great news for Edwards, and the movement is growing with plenty of votes to be cast!

13. I'm not fooled one bit
I think crossover tends to be around 5%. But with Bush who knows?

8. Of course, you are ignoring the point
We need a candidate with strong appeal to independents. Edwards won the vast majority of indepents tonight.

21. This is not true at all
Are you from North Carolina? Have you ever even been inside its borders?

I didn't think so.

14. Edwards, if he's the nominee
Edited on Tue Feb-17-04 11:29 PM by amandabeech
There are a lot of really PO'd moderate Repugs out there who are:

1. NOT Christian right cultural conservatives;

2. Want some fiscal responsibility; and

3. Want to get out of Iraq gracefully, and not just to go on another overseas adventure on dubious intelligence.

I'm originally from Michigan, a neighboring state. Outside the Grand Rapids area (home of Amway), there are quite a few moderate Repugs. I expect that Wisconsin has even more of them, from what I know of Wisconsin (Radio, TV, summer spent working in Milwaukee).

Maybe there are some in Illinois, too.

Amanda

11. Crossover appeal? Check the stats
Of those 17% who are satisfied and even enthusiastic about the Bush admin, 86% of them voted for Edwards. If they're so enthusiastic, why would they be looking to cross over?

15. You are talking about 17% of 30% of the total ind. vote
So the problem is that only makes up about 5% of the total vote. What about the other independents who dislike Bush? Why don't you post that #?

I'd say 17% counts for something.

On Edit: I posted the link, so all the numbers are there. I commented on part of it, but I did not intentially leave out any information, should someone choose to pick a point of interest, open to debate.

17. It's called math, lets learn together
Try it really quickly.

30% of the voters were indepents.

17% of the independents were in favor of Bush.

So 17% of 30% equals a little over 5% of the total vote. I would be willing to bet you that Edwards didn't get 100% of those votes. So the difference was minimal at best.

Have a good night, so much for just congratulating us for a hard-fought and clean campaign in Wisconsin.

19. Meerly posting a link with observations
Here's some more math

More Important to your vote: Can Beat Bush

Edwards 28%, Kerry 59%

No qualms with Edwards. I meerly stated my personal observation of an interesting voting trend. Edwards runs a clean campaign, and deserves every vote he gets - from Dems who want Bush out of the house.

18. Since you asked so nicely...
Angry with Bush Admininstration: 28% Edwards, 43% Kerry
Dissatisfied with * Admin: 37% Edwards, 44% Kerry

Oh, and here is one more:
"Can Beat Bush More Important to your vote"
28% Edwards, 59% Kerry
Ability to Beat Bush as #1 Priority

20. Does it really make sense
to let your political opponents have a vote in who your candidate is? Independents are one thing but Repugs?
