Impeachment is not a political issue - it is a moral issue
I hate it when people talk about "not having the votes" or how it will will effect the outcome of the 08 elections. Some things are just a moral imperative plain and simple.

I won't bore people enumerating the reasons I think he should be impeached, but suffice it to say, if we do not impeach George W. Bush, than no one ever again can be considered impeachable.

1. If we impeach and fail to convict
what has been gained? Bush would be acquitted - how does that help anything?

I don't understand why people who are searching for moral purity get interested in politics - it's bound to be disappointing.

2. How could he possibly be acquitted? Are you kidding?
In fact, he would pull a Nixon and resign. As would Cheney. And, by that time, if not before, we would be right up on elections. I also think it is fine if the American people want to make the election a referendum on his impeachment.

I was trying to keep politics out of the equation, but since you want to introduce it - Impeachment is a far more winning issue for Democrats than the war - since they just can't bend their minds around just getting out period.

3. How?
by failing to get 67 votes to convict. When anybody can name 17 republican Senators who will vote to remove the president, then I'll reconsider. Of course, that just leaves us President Cheney.

And as unsatisfying as it may be, impeachment is entirely a political issue.

4. I am positive that it would never come to a vote.
And I already said Cheney would resign too.

5. I have no reason whatsoever
to believe that to be the case. We can't even override a veto.

Bush can count to 67 - there's no way he and cheney would both resign.
