Inevitability: 8 of the top 10 topics are about Hillary
Folks who love her are spending a lot of time promoting her, and folks who hate her are spending a lot of time hating her.

Either way, she is all the rage among Democrats. If I were a candidate, I'd love to be in her position. She generates major attention. And we will need that for the general election.

1. I Swear
I started this primary season as not being a big fan ... I still like Obama and Edwards better...I thought she's a bland campaigner and still do but the attacks on her here are so over the top that I find myself responding and I find myself defending her out of fundamental fairness...And subconsciously I am beginning to dislike some of her opponents because of what their followers are saying here...

They should think about that... Because I suspect others feel the same way...

2. centrists will always adore her
and be unable to see the fundamental unfairness in centrist politics. That doesn't mean the rest of us are unfair in pointing it out. That and fundraising scandals and corporate donations and lobbyist relations and cozying up to outscourcers. All fair. Whether the centrists like hearing it or not.

6. Define Centrist
I'm pro gay marriage, pro-choice, anti death penalty, pro affirmative action, pro decriminalization of all drugs, health care for all independent of ability to pay...

But I know someone who actively espoused those views has the proverbial bat's chance in Hell of getting elected president...

10. I think you just defined 'centrist'.
Somebody who will vote for a candidate who supports only 10% of your agenda because you think your agenda is untenable - the evidence for which thinking is that no one with your agenda ever gets elected, because you vote for someone else.

12. I'll Vote For The Democratic Nominee
Edited on Mon Sep-17-07 11:56 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
And the fact that candidates who come remotely close to staking out the positions I staked out get one percent of the vote in general elections suggest they are anything other than centrist:

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/centrist

-One who takes a position in the political center; a moderate

If I was to vote for someone who thought like me on the issues I would have to vote for myself...

I don't like labels unless they are on food or drugs...

26. No. You didn't mention the one position (war) that hurts Clinton.
Maybe that's why you consider supporting her, and also why you failed to understand my post.

I hope all people are pro-peace but that term is so amorphous I don't know what it means and I don't know what it means to oppose it...

I'll support the Democratic nominee....

3. I, OTOH, always had a certain respect for her
but the way some of her supporters tout her as the second coming of Bill without any examination of the policies that she actually backs, no matter what she talks about, have led me to distrust her with increasing intensity, despite my one-time support and her being one of the few candidates I have ever supported with a donation.

They should think about that... Because I suspect others feel the same way...

8. I have a good idea. Let's look at "the policies that she actually backs" and compare them to...
Edited on Mon Sep-17-07 11:40 AM by wyldwolf
...the positions of the other candidates on the same issues.

But let's actually stick to facts.

So, point out a policy she backs, provide current supportive evidence, then we'll discuss.

11. Ya know, I've seen every candidate have that...
pile of rote supporters who don't seem to actually know anything about the candidate-- just the sound bites and propaganda.

"Supporters" or "Paid Propagandists?" Who knows, who cares...

18. Hillary; mother of all flipflops: Iraq War
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0L63Ff_mGzs

BTW: Hillary didn't bother to read the National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq in 2002 - this, to me, disqualifies her for the presidency...

4. Not If Most of the Attention is Getting Out the Repiglickin' Vote
I don't love her or hate her, I am just afraid that she will sail through the convention and get clobbered in the general election, taking our Congressional majority, such as it is, with it.

20. GOP vote came out against Kerry, too
Those guys are good at firing up their voters. They do it in every election cycle. So what's new?

Unless their party has gained more members (it hasn't), we are in no worse shape with Mrs Clinton than with any other nominee.

25. The difference is that it should be easy this time. With Hillary, it is not.
In 2004 the war was popular, Bush was popular, and America still had Clinton fatigue. This time America is ready for a change. Republicans are ready for a Clinton as the nominee.

30. I beg to differ strongly
Bush's popularity has decreased. Not from high to low, as you suggest, but from fair in 2004 to anemic now.

In 2004, he was ripe to be booted from office.

Newsweek, 5/13-14/04: 57% disappoved of Bush's handling of Iraq.
That reflects the polling trends of that summer and fall. The war was not popular anymore. This was after it was clear there were no WMDs and no plan for the occupation. And if I recall correctly, in that fall we lost our 1000th soldier.

Bush's approval ratings were in the high 40s-to low 50s. Awful for a guy trying to get elected president. He should be OUT of there. There was no reason in this world why he should have been the winner in 2004. No reason.

And, it's all hate.

So, you're suggesting that the most hated candidate is what we need for the general. Brilliant!!

17. Uh. No.
I am suggesting that she generates attenion, period. She is not ignored. If she goes to McDonald's, the news media will be there. Sometimes that's good and sometimes its bad. But altogether, I'd rather get attention than not.

21. Rush Limpole JUST did a Bill Clinton-Monica spoof
I was listening to him for his opening gaggle where Madeleine Albright was saying that Hillary Clinton is "not a cold fish"...

The GOP is hoping beyond hope to pull out the Clinton material again... let's let them have what they want.

:sarcasm:

on any given day we're praising/bashing Obama or Edwards, and bitching about the lack of coverage of the others.

But I agree...she's in a great position.
