This Made Me Cry -
Below is a speech given by Gloria Daviston, U.S. Army Veteran

Gloria was stationed, among other places, in Tehran, Iran, from September 1977 to February 1979. She served as a basic training drill sergeant for male trainees at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. She is a proud member of Veterans For Peace.

WHAT TIME IS IT?

What time is it? It is time to speak up. Time to speak up for our children. Time to speak up for the children of Iraq. Time to speak up for the Constitution of the United States. Time to speak up for the innocent people of Iraq. It is time to speak up for Mother Nature and Planet Earth. Time to speak up now for the future of our world, or there may be no one left to speak or no world left to speak for. Now is the time to speak up for impeachment!

Impeach because of the failure after 6 years to catch Osama bin Forgotten.

Impeach because Bush bin Lyin’.

Impeach because of the war of lies in Iraq.

Impeach because there is no war on poverty.

Impeach because of the possibility of a nuclear attack on Iran over nuclear energy.

Impeach because of the reality of scattered cluster bombs and lethal depleted uranium.

Impeach because of the attack on honesty and open government.

Impeach because of the lack of an adequate response to Katrina.

Impeach because of the lack of an adequate response to citizens’ honest concerns.

Impeach because of no-bid contracts in New Orleans.

Impeach because of no-bid contracts in Iraq.

Impeach because of Abu Ghraib.

Impeach because of Walter Reed.

Impeach because of the lack of adequate resources to the Veterans Administration.

Impeach because of the outing of Valerie Plaime.

Impeach because of the black sites around the world.

Impeach because of Guantanamo Bay.

Impeach because of torture everywhere.

Impeach because of the failure to support the Geneva Conventions.

Impeach because of warrantless wiretaps.

Impeach because of the unwarranted firing of U.S. attorneys.

Impeach because of the denial of global warming.

Impeach because of the lack of stem cell research to stop the suffering of millions.

Impeach because of the denial of science.

Impeach because of lack of support for birth control and a woman’s right to choose.

Impeach because of losing more than $10 billion in cash in Iraq.

Impeach because of lack of body armor for our troops.

Impeach because of the demise of habeas corpus.

Impeach because of the pardon of Scooter Libby.

Impeach because of the unpardonable and preposterous contentions of Dick Cheney.

Impeach Cheney first because he is indeed evil incarnate.

Impeach because of the lies of Alberto Gonzalez.

Impeach because of the failure to appear of Harriet Miers.

Impeach because our national debt has risen by $3 trillion.

Impeach because 45 million of our citizens have no health insurance.

Impeach because our soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines deserve so much better than an out of touch, out of control president who should be out of office because he is clearly out of his mind.

Impeach because our Constitution is being decimated daily.

Impeach because impeachment is not just for blowjobs anymore.

Impeach because impeachment is the Constitutional answer to our national crisis and our international fiasco.
Impeach because impeachment is for accountability.

Impeach because the elections of 2008 are too far away and people are dying today.

Impeach because impeachment is the right thing to do.

Impeach because it is never too late to do the right thing.
Impeach for peace.

What time is it? Impeachment time!

I felt it was my duty to share it.

3. We must do something, this is something, therefore we must do this...
Edited on Mon Sep-17-07 03:29 PM by Donald Ian Rankin
That's never been a line of reasoning I've found convincing.

Inevitably-doomed impeachment procedings would make the US's problems worse, not better.

What the Democrats *should* do is concentrate all their efforts on removing the Republicans from power in 2008.

5. You gotta be kidding

I am speechless.

6. Any professional prosecutor will tell you the same - only bring a case with a chance of conviction.
Edited on Mon Sep-17-07 06:32 PM by Donald Ian Rankin
If you know that the accused is going to walk, you don't prosecute, even if you, personally, know they're guilty.

More to the point, though, you favour "allowing" Bush to get away with breaking the law just as much as I do, it's just that you favour making it look as though you're doing something about it whereas I don't.

I'm married to a federal prosecutor... he disagrees with you.

Oh and so does this former federal prosecutor:

8. Your husband regularly prosecutes people he knows won't be convicted?
If so, all I can say is that he's not doing his job properly.

10. Hmmm, let's see
and you know this because you are an expert?

There is clear cut reasons for impeaching these liars -- mainly it's because they LIE and they do it over and over.

As for your insight -- it is at best myopic.

12. i forgot
even if my husband drove a cab for a living and didn't graduate from the 3rd grade -- even that person would know that the current administration has broken MANY, many laws. Far worse than Richard Nixon. Far worse than Bill Clinton.

9. With a list of offenses like that, they would succeed...
Following the public airing it would entail, Reps would have to join Dems or lose their seats.

11. I think your political calculus is way off.

People believe what they want to believe.

A large majority of people who oppose the Republicans initially would assume that Bush was guilty of any charges brought against him, and a large majority of those who support them initially would assume that they were purely politically motivated.

The support Republican senators need is from the latter group.

As such, even if there were any who believed Bush was guilty, their own self-interest would prevent them from voting as such.

Any Republican who broke ranks and voted to impeach Bush would have the label of "traitor" hung round their neck, almost certainly ending their own career.

The odds of any Republicans being willing to face that are negligable; the odds of obtaining a conviction are negligable to the 16th power.

13. I think you're underestimating the disillusionment of many...
Republican voters, who are wise to the criminals in the WH.

4. Well done!
Wonder what the Dems in Congress hope to gain by failing to impeach ~ it will probably lead to a "throw the bums out" movement to unseat incumbents.
