Elected and Electable; Dennis Kucinich

Elected and Electable; Dennis Kucinich

People ask why I support someone seen as unelectable, Congressman Dennis Kucinich. The mere title, "Congressman," alone states that this man was elected. Thus, he is electable. Indeed, Dennis Kucinich was voted into office on more than one occasion. Personally, I am proud to state I cast a ballot for this esteemed and gentle giant, and that I will again. Many have voted for Dennis Kucinich in the past. I trust, just as the Presidential candidate from Ohio does, that they will again.

In the city of Cleveland, Dennis Kucinich was elected Mayor in 1977, three long decades ago. That was not the first time the Presidential aspirant received the physical and philosophical support of numerous people. The Kucinich story began long before Dennis took office as the head of that Midwestern community. Recently, in a desire to share the home-state-historical-records of each of the Presidential candidates, New Hampshire Public Radio hosted a series of programs, Voters in New Hampshire have long been known as people that want more than a moment on television to help them determine who is the best person for the job of President. Depth and details gratify those in the Granite State.

Therefore, the North Easterners turned to an acclaimed resident of the heartland Vincent Duffy, from WKSU Radio in Kent, Ohio to learn of the Congressman from the Buckeye State. Duffy reflects on the history of this dedicated, devoted American.

Dennis Kucinich was a college sophomore in 1967 when he paid $42.50 to declare himself a candidate for Cleveland city council, and lost. Two years later, he won that seat, and last October he returned to Cleveland's City Hall to announce his latest political goal:

(Kucinich, from announcement speech) "I stand here, ready to light up America! I'm Dennis John Kucinich and I'm running for the president of the United States!" (Sound of crowd cheering.)

4. My local dogcatcher is "elected" too.
I think some of us would like to see him have slightly broader support beyond his small niche in Cleveland. I'd take him more seriously if he ran for Ohio Governor or a Senate spot. Show me that he can organize and run a major campaign and appeal to a very broad audience successfully.

8. I doubt that you would support Dennis if he were Governor of Ohio or

one of Ohio's Senators. I think that's just an excuse people use for not supporting him.

10. Probably not.
However, I didn't say I'd support him if he were Governor. I said I'd start taking him seriously, there is a difference.

12. In politics, your vote is all that counts, not just

"taking him seriously," and you've admitted you probably wouldn't vote for him if he were governor or a senator.

Did it ever occur to you that he is interested in national and international politics and therefore not a governship and that he may have no desire to be in the Senate, which is our equivalent of the House of Lords.

If he's really interested in making a difference in national an international politics, then being a Senator has 10x the influence of a Congressman. It's hardly a "House of Lords" and that sounds like serious "spin" to even say that.

True, he would not get my vote, however, I'm sure there are many other that would vote for him if he gave them a reason to take him seriously.

11. Why doesn't he run, though?
I like some of Dennis's positions, but I think he's just a bad campaigner. If he could prove he can win a statewide election, I know I would have vastly greater confidence in his "electability", and i'm sure it's provide a noticeable bump in the general public as well.

14. IMO, he's not interested in the Senate, which is like the House of Lords,

because of that clubbiness of the privileged. And since he's interested in national and international politics/issues, being governor doesn't interest him, either.

John Edwards got to the Senate after becoming extremely rich as a trial lawyer. Hillary Clinton got there after being First Lady and making a lot of important connections, being able to draw a lot of money in addition to what Bill is making now for speeches. Barack Obama also made a lot of money as a lawyer, I believe.

It seems that most senators are rich lawyers (don't forget Hillary is a lawyer, too) and Dennis is neither rich nor a lawyer, nor is he interested in personal wealth. Helping other people is his main interest. That makes him a rarity in politics.

18. And the U.S presidency is a less "clubby" or privileged group? Get real
And I noticed you threw the "trial lawyer" slur in for John Edwards.

I don't debate Dennis is a good person with good ideals. I don't think he's a very good campaigner.

15. I agree with most of you on this one.
But you guys and gals need to start putting Clinton, Obama and Edwards in your titles or you will only get 99% Dennis Kucinich supporters. The media has done a great job with the sheeple and they ignore Kucinich just like the agenda driven media does. Throw one of the medias candidates names in and you will get the word out a little more and a ton more responses. Of course they will probably not pay attention but maybe they will at some point catch on to what he stands for... the American people!

Everyone in my family and all of my close friends are behind Kucinich, it just took me enlightening them on who he was and what he stands for.

WHY?

It's because Dennis is the last DEM STANDING in that STATE? Or is it that he's seen by his supporters as a "voice for change?"
