The reason I'm posting this is to see if a certain statistical trend I'm expecting holds true among the replies, so please, even if you don't have anything much to say, give me an answer.

The others decide with their fingers to the wind. DK has a conscience, a soul worthy of Eleanor Roosevelt's vision of the party. I have no doubt what Eleanor Roosevelt would have to say about Hillary's close ties to Robert Murdock. Hillary would be in for a tongue lashing.

4. Yes, I think John Edwards will win the nomination.

He'll stun the corporate media by winning Iowa after months of polls showing him tied or slightly behind Hillary Clinton, because those polls cast far too wide a net for voters. The voters who actually attend the caucus will likely be majority pro-Edwards. The winner of Iowa consistently gets about an 11 point bounce as a result, which will substantially improve Edward's chances of winning Nevada and/or New Hampshire. If he can win at least one while finishing second in the other, that should be good enough to sweep him to the nomination. Much depends on whether or not Hillary Clinton falls to third in Iowa. If she does, the media could spin it as a "fall from grace" and hurt her numbers elsewhere.

and I do attend the local UU society on occasion when I am away at school (someday, I might make it official, but I haven't yet). As you no doubt know from my avatar, my primary identification is as a Humanist (so I feel right at home in UU, to the extent that I feel at home in a church anywhere).

and I think he's actually gaining some momentum. He shows an amazing ability to recoup from mistakes and misquotes. I think he'll go all the way.

I'm sure Edwards will win Iowa which will give him the momentum to win the nomination. Why he wins Iowa? At Harkin's steak fry (yes, sore subject with many) most of the Hillary & Obama supporters were young campaign staffers who were bused in from surrounding states. Edwards' supporters were Iowa folks, mostly the 35-60 age bracket, and far out numbered Hillary or Obama supporters.

If this Gore fellow -- what's his name -- Al? -- decides to jump in this October or November, the top 6 in our field will have a very changed landscape on their hands.

Absent a Gore announcement for the White House, I could see a minimum 6 winning the nomination in the caucuses and primaries, yes.

The Democratic party ostracized us. we'd vote for Kucinich if we could. Michigan being outsourced to China/Mexico; maybe the state should secede. Apprears the national Democrats have no more respect for Michigan /Florida Democrats than does Wall Street for Michigan jobs.

The point I wanted to illustrate was the power of wishful thinking - with the exception of Kucinich, and at most one other candidate, people *must* be overestimating their chances of victory.

People believe what they want to believe.
