Ralph Nader criticizes 'spineless, gutless' Democrats for not impeaching Bush
http://rawstory.com//news/2007/Ralph_Nader_how_many_Impeachable_offences_0916.html

Consumer advocate Ralph Nader, who mounted failed bids for the White House in 2000 and 2004, excoriated the Bush administration for its post-9/11 policies that critics say trample on civil liberties and for its pursuit of war in Iraq, which he said distracts from fighting Osama bin Laden.

The onetime Green Party candidate appeared at an anti-war rally in Washington Saturday, where he chastised "spineless, gutless" Democrats in Congress for failing to boot Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney from office.

"The impeachable offenses of Bush outnumber any other list of impeachable offenses of any US president," Nader said. "Not only did he and Cheney violate their oath of office to uphold the constitution and the laws of the land, but they proceeded to impose a practice of torture, to arrest thousands of Americans without charges and throw them in prisons without lawyers.... They spied on millions of Americans randomly without judicial approval. How many more impeachable offenses do those spineless, gutless, hapless Democrats need in the Congress."

Nader, who encouraged attendees to visit the anti-war Web site DemocracyRising.us, said the presidential elections in 2000 and 2004 were "stolen" from Democrats, but he did not mention his own candidacy in either of those races.

<EDIT> I AGREE with Nader!!

7. Mr. Nader, perhaps some things worthy of you consideration and expertise.
Edited on Mon Sep-17-07 08:50 PM by BleedingHeartPatriot
They aren't really anti Democratic, but they sure could use your laser focus.

The Mortgage Lending industry.

The bankruptcy bill..P.S. If you're going to give the Dems hell, do it with THIS piece of tripe. CAFTA could be the follow up.

The sub contracting of many of our government institutions, of which one was of your doing. The Consumer Product Safety, which then became FDA, I believe.

Corporate Agriculture.

Just a thought, but I guess name calling is your forte, now. MKJ

16. I tend to mistrust presentations that rely heavily on MTV-like visuals.
It may be my advanced age (77.6), but that's how it is, and with no apologies offered. So I urge all here to listen to the words, and ignore the screen. They're well worth heeding!

23. He's right about this (anti-anti-naderite-rant)
And on a side note i really don't know whether to laugh my ass off about the people who put the guilt of bushs presidency on him or pity them.

I'm sure the world would have been better off with Gore/Lieberman (that outstanding loyal democrat who is relly revered here

1. He has a right to run and exercise this right (somewhere the end of this binary party joke has to end)
2. The vote was stolen (no and the greens are not to blame for this, they were legit contenders that had every right to do so)
3. At least Numbnutz Bush is doing so bad that more people are waking up from corporate fantasyland. If this nightmare is over perhaps throughrough reforms have a chance...like multipartygovernment? A well it worked out sooo bad in Europe...

A well the greens are ideologic allies, by antagonizing them you play into the divide and conquer scheme..grats

And the quisling congress and senate which have been bought or bullied into compliance and have a democratic majority are fighting for you hand and teeth..riiight. It must be the greens fault too...

26. Thnks DU Brother!
I was trying to formulate a similar response, but I'll heartily endorse yours instead.

I went from Gore to Nader in 2000, with my epiphany on the train ride, coming back from a Labor Day picnic at Centralia WA. As a delegate to the King County Labor Council, I noted this: 1). The majority of the other delegates there, were very STRONGLY for what Nader was saying, and many shared my stand. 2). Organized Labor, locally and nationally, seemed to have spent ALL it's efforts into browbeating us into supporting Gore & Lieberman, but seemingly NONE in getting those two candidates to talk & act like DEMOCRATS!

A Nader vote was a very "safe" move in WA; it wouldn't have affected the final outcome one damn bit. The point was to generate a sufficiently large vote, to "send a message", while not putting a Republican into the Oval Office. Such things are notoriously difficult to fine tune, and for various reasons, it didn't work out that way. But I offer NO apologies! I did the best I could, with what I knew at the time.

28. The truth hurst people, and Nader is speaking the truth
The Dems have exhibited the lack of a spine for years now, in fact ever since 911. They have basically rolled over and let Bush do whatever the fuck he wants until last fall. Now they're just not doing a damn thing. They could be ending this war, but they refuse. They could be bringing charges of impeachment, but they're not.

The Dems, as a whole, are gutless spineless wonders. There are only a few, Kucinich, Feingold, etc. who have had the guts to stand up to the 'Pugs, and then they are slapped down by their own party. Pathetic.

29. Her's an apt quote by Eric Fromm:
"There is perhaps no phenomenon which contains so much destructive feeling as 'moral indignation,' which permits envy or hate to be acted out under the guise of virtue."

I would quote that on my union's BBS on occasion, and it would ENRAGE a particularly far, far-right "moral high ground" guy there. But who knows? It might get under the skins of a few here too.

35. And I call Nader a narcissistic egomaniac
He had a chance to change the course of our country's history,
and for the better. all he had to do was say to his supporters,
ten days before the 2000 election, "OK people, we have made our
point. If the Gore administration ignores us, they will do so
at their peril, but for now, everyone knows we are out there, so
let's make sure there is no Bush administration first, because
if there is one, they are sure to pretend we are not alive."

He had a chance to ensure that Al Gore would be president in 2001.
Instead, he said that there would be no difference between a Bush
administration and a Gore administration. And now he calls Democrats
spineless for not fixing a problem he helped create. After all, what
does he care? There was no difference between the parties, right? RIGHT?

Maybe it wasn't obvious to some, but it sure as hell was obvious to me
that there was a WORLD of difference, and that a Gore administration
would be a boon to our country, and that a Bush administration would
be a disaster for our country. We'll never get to know what a Gore
administration would have done if it had come into being in 2001. We all
know what happened when the Bushies took power.

I know, I know, Donna Brazile, Gore's lackluster campaign, blah blah blah.
Plus Katherine Harris and Jebbie's little manipulations. The fact remains
that if only 20% of Nader's supporters in Florida had voted for Al Gore,
he would have been president now.

It's difficult to remember that Nader once had to good of the country at heart.
I liked him better as a consumer advocate than as a decider. Since January 20, 2001,
as far as I am concerned, he has been Ralph Nobody.
