AMERICA FOR GORE: NATIONWIDE COALITION CREATED
TO DRAFT AL GORE FOR PRESIDENT IN 2008

National Milestone Reached in Growing Grassroots Movement

BOSTON, Massachusetts—September 13, 2007—They are teachers and students, scientists and doctors, secretaries and CEOs, store clerks and store owners, factory workers and artists. They represent every demographic group and every geographic region in the country. They are everyday Americans, from coast to coast and across the political spectrum—Democrats, Independents, Republicans, conservatives, liberals, moderates. And they have two things in common: They have become involved in the political process (many for the first time), and they want Al Gore to run in the 2008 presidential election.

And, as of September 2007, the grassroots effort of these thousands of individuals has reached a milestone: They have joined together as a nationwide coalition—America for Gore.

America for Gore encompasses all the major and minor groups within the movement whose goal is to persuade Al Gore to run for president. Among the groups in the coalition are DraftGore.com, AlGore.org, Netroots for Gore, GoreHub.com, AlGore08 MySpace, Draft Gore Facebook groups, GoreforPresidentNow.com, Goreganic.com, RunDammit.com, RunGoreRun.com, and the Al Gore Support Center, as well as hundreds of Draft Gore meetups and groups nationwide. While the groups will continue to focus on their individual strategies, they will also be working together on important initiatives by sharing information, exchanging ideas, and mobilizing their members to help other groups within the coalition.

The America for Gore coalition is launching a new website—www.AmericaforGore.org —to establish a central location on the web for the coordination of this grassroots effort. America for Gore is not replacing existing websites, groups, and blogs. The individual websites of each organization will continue to exist as before, but the new coalition website will keep group members and the public informed and will act as a portal, directing Gore supporterr to the member sites so the can become involved in the many different facets of the Draft Gore movement.

Members of the coalition cite Gore's unmatched political experience (eight years each in Congress, the Senate, and as Vice President), the fact that he won the popular vote in 2000, his early and outspoken opposition to the war in Iraq, and his commitment to solving the climate crisis as core strengths of a potential candidacy in 2008.

The formation of this coalition signals a significant increase in the sophistication of the Draft Gore movement as well as in the powers of coordination, recruitment, and influence of the movement.

By coordinating their activities, the groups hope to extend their reach, recruit more members, and increase their impact on the public's and the media's perception of Al Gore's viability as a candidate.

42. Wonderful! Great article! And created in Boston -- where it all began!
Edited on Tue Sep-18-07 05:53 PM by Radio_Lady
For thirty years, we lived in one of the three small towns whose citizens stood their ground in Lexington, Massachusetts.

Concord is the second city, and we were just down the road in Sudbury, Massachusetts.

Al Gore has risen above petty politics and has become a statesman, dedicated to protecting our future. This is EXACTLY the kind of leadership that is needed to rescue us from the devastation created by the current administration. It is remarkable, that with such a great field of announced Democratic hopefuls, that such a person can stand so tall and be so right for the road ahead.

I have tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat thinking of the possibilities. Mike Mulloy is for Gore -- he said so on his show last night -- and so am I. Let us give the man who won the 2000 election his rightful place in history. Re-elect Gore 2008.

Respectfully submitted,

Radio Lady Ellen in Oregon

5. If the people in this have become involved in the political process for real...
They would then see how toxic it is... So what do you intend to do to fix that first? Of course why quibble over reality when PR statements make it all look so nice and neat.

12. Keep Hope Alive!
THE LAST TEMPTATION OF AL GORE
By Eric Pooley
TIME Magazine -- May 17, 2007

Let's say you were dreaming up the perfect stealth candidate for 2008, a Democrat who could step into the presidential race when the party confronts its inevitable doubts about the front runners. You would want a candidate with the grass-roots appeal of Barack Obama -- someone with a message that transcends politics, someone who spoke out loud and clear and early against the war in Iraq. But you would also want a candidate with the operational toughness of Hillary Clinton -- someone with experience and credibility on the world stage.
In other words, you would want someone like Al Gore -- the improbably charismatic, Academy Award-winning, Nobel Prize-nominated environmental prophet with an army of followers and huge reserves of political and cultural capital at his command.

13. run, run, run
sent my 2 cents the other day.
also passed out some buttons at the local dem endorsement session. it was my first time, and i wish i had thought harder about it. i would have poked them to put gore on their ballot, and asked to speak. i did get a few words, but mine was the only vote. (barack obama missed an automatic endorsement by 1 vote.)
seems like it is starting to get late all the sudden, tho.

24. And where were all these groups in 2000 to stand up for him then?
And aren't you being a bit delusional or living in denial regarding the political system that has not changed since 2000 that you seem to think Al Gore deserves to have to deal with again as if he hasn't been through enough already? And do you honestly believe this climate crisis is at the critical mass in the minds and hearts of Americans to even make a difference yet in tipping the political scales when they haven't even made the changes necessary to their own lives on the whole that will make a dent that Mr. Gore is now changing? If you do think that I sure would like to see the proof of it.

To me it looks as if you are stating that his way of attacking this crisis now and going around that status quo (which is actually a brilliant strategy) isn't good enough for you so you won't support that. Are these posts then only about the same soundbites and no real discussion as he excoriates in his book, or have any of you actually thought about what you are asking him to do and would YOU do it yourself if in the same position knowing the amount of change you were igniting as a private citizen and statesman?

What is more important to you? The real progress made in mitigating this crisis regardless of where he does it from, or just being part of a hyped up campaign to get your names and egos out there now that he is "popular?" If you haven't thought of that then all I can say is how absolutely selfish. But go ahead and ignore this or attack it as it is obvious many who claim to support this man appear to be totally out of the loop regarding wha he has been saying for the past six years and how his actions have been showing it.

58. Gore - the Ubermensch
I hate it when I'm in a room with idiots that disagree with me, and then later on they all tell me I was right. If they'd just have listened to me we wouldn't be in this mess.

That's Al Gore. If he was President things would be better for everyone, including all the hundreds of thousands of people that have died because of Bush's lies. 9-11 may not have happened, Osama Bin Laden might be executed by now, our military would be stronger, our credibility abroad would be stronger, Iraq wouldn't have happened, Katrina victims and New Orleans would have been taken care of properly, the rich wouldn't have their ridiculous tax cut, our budget would be balanced, the EPA would be making real progress on Kyoto and the environment, the Constituion wouldn't need a rape kit, the Supreme Court would be 6 to 3 in our favor rather than 5 to 4 in their favor, and Joe Lieberman would be a Democratic Vice-President instead of a semi-left leaning Senator for CN.

Just think of it. The next best thing would be to reverse 2000 and put his ass in office.
