Should we change our Electoral Vote system?
I was thinking of having each congressional district provide a number of electoral votes proportional to population, a lot like how the House of Representatives works.

Seems to me that'd be better than whole states going for one guy or another. Especially in places like South Carolina and Texas, where the backwoods Kool-Aid drinkers wouldn't be able to completely outweigh the liberal groups in the cities like they can now. Places like Charleston and Austin are reasonably blue, if I recall correctly.

Is there some flaw in this idea that I'm not seeing?

1. Yes, there should be a change.
Whoever wins the popular vote should (duh!) be elected. But the current system will never be changed. Smaller states will never go for amending the Constitution under any circumstance.

2. Hey, something needs to change
although not all of us in the backwoods in Texas are repukes (alot of them here though). I am a PROUD liberal. My bumper stickers say it clear-"IMPEACH BUCH FOR BLOWING THE JOB" and "BUSH LIED AND YOU KNOW IT"

3. Stop making sense. Things need a big overhaul, especially after
the unchecked redistricting shenanigans the rethugs have pulled the last several years.

5. That, and we need to have the Senate run
via proportional representation.

Time to abolish the tyranny of the minority.

6. Screw that. Amend the Constitution, make it a popular vote.
I absolutely hate the electoral college, and I hate the stupid state-by-state primary system. Hold the national primaries two months before the election, then hold the election (and mandate a half-day off for both.)

We'd be spared this year-long circus, and we'd be spared the anti-democratic, anti-urban, fucked-up stuff that's held our nation back for decades.

8. The time has come for change
Democrats in red states feel their votes don't count. Republicans in blue states feel their votes don't count. No voter should feel that way. Wouldn't their be a better voter turnout if each person thought his/her vote counted?

invested in the status quo.

11. Obviously, it has to be a nationwide thing.
You can't have one or two states playing by different rules (ok, I know Maine and Nebraska do, but frankly, who cares?)

I strongly support trashing the electoral college and going to a national popular vote. The system we have didn't make any sense to me when it was first explained to me when I was a child, and it still doesn't make any sense.

13. Yeah, but we'd also pick up as many votes from places like Miami, Charleston, etc...
I'm talking nation-wide here, not just one state.

12. We should adopt a parlimentary form of government, which is the only cure for the two-party system
